Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata is an Indian politician from Shimoga district of Karnataka. [1] He was former National President of the Indian Youth Congress. [2] He was a cricket player who had played for under-19 and under-16 Karnataka cricket team. [3] He was in the news for his online responses and relief works with along his associates during the COVID-19 pandemic in Delhi. [4]
Srinivas who hails from a non-political middle-class family,started his political career as a NSUI member during his college days at National College,Bangalore. [5] Later he became a block president of the Indian Youth Congress followed by positions at district level and state level.
He rose into publicity in 2010 when a group of Congress workers along with him mounted a protest against Pramod Muthalik,a staunch right wing activist in Coastal Karnataka and smeared black paint on his face for Muthalik's vitriolic stand against Valentine's Day celebrations. [6] He faced disciplinary actions from Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee following this. However,in October 2010 he received 'Best Youth Congress Worker' award from Rahul Gandhi. [7]
He held the post of National Secretary,IYC,followed by National General Secretary,IYC,and its vice president in 2018. In July 2019 he was appointed president of the Indian Youth Congress when Keshav Chand Yadav resigned from this post after Lok Sabha elections. [8] [9] Under his leadership IYC organized 'National Unemployment Day' on September 17,the birthday of Narendra Modi. [10] [11] [5]
In the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic in India he set up facilities to help Migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to reach back home using Shramik Special trains. [12] [5]
During the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in India he became one of the most visible help provider for government and non government bodies by facilitating emergency supplies of essential drugs and oxygen. [3] [13] He coordinated a group of 1000 Indian Youth Congress(IYC) volunteers in Delhi for COVID-19 relief. [14] There were instances when Diplomatic mission (embassies) of New Zealand and Philippines reached out to IYC team for COVID-19 relief. [15] [16] There were political spat over this relief works but Srinivas categorically stated that he is into relief and not into pandemic politics. [17]
In May 2021,Delhi Police questioned him on COVID-19 relief distribution alleging hoarding. [18] However Indian National Congress came out in support of him and criticized Bharatiya Janata Party for unleashing political vendetta against those helping people in need. [19] In a report filed by Delhi Police before Delhi High Court they said that Srinivas and team are actually helping people voluntarily without any discrimination and there is no black marketing happening under the garb of volunteering. Angkita Dutta,Assam president of Indian Youth Congress,accused him of harassment after which she was expelled from the All India Congress Committee due to "anti party activities". Srinivas was summoned by Assam Police in the matter. [21]

Venkataiah Srinivasa Prasad was an Indian politician from the state of Karnataka,who was recognised as an important Dalit leader in the old Mysore region. He served as a union minister from 1999 to 2004 as part of the Third Vajpayee ministry,and later as Minister of Revenue in the Government of Karnataka from 2013 to 2016. Prasad was elected to the Lok Sabha from Chamarajanagar six times starting 1980. His last win came from the same constituency in 2019,before he announced his retirement from electoral politics in 2021.

The Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund was created on 27 March 2020,following the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Although it is named for the Prime Minister of India,and uses the State Emblem of India,it is a private fund,used at the discretion of the Prime Minister and the Fund's trustees,and does not form a part of the Government of India's accounts. The Fund was established for the purpose of redressing the COVID-19 pandemic in India,in 2020. While complete documentation for the Fund's establishment has not been made public,the Government of India has stated that the Prime Minister of India,Narendra Modi,is the chairman of the fund,and that trustees include the Minister of Defence,Rajnath Singh;the Minister of Home Affairs,Amit Shah,the Minister of Finance,Nirmala Sitharaman,and several corporate leaders and industrialists,including Ratan Tata,and Sudha Murty.
A Tablighi Jamaat religious congregation that took place in Delhi's Nizamuddin Markaz Mosque in early March 2020 was a COVID-19 super-spreader event,with more than 4,000 confirmed cases and at least 27 deaths linked to the event reported across the country. Over 9,000 missionaries may have attended the congregation,with the majority being from various states of India,and 960 attendees from 40 foreign countries. On 18 April,4,291 confirmed cases of COVID-19 linked to this event by the Union Health Ministry represented a third of all the confirmed cases of India. Around 40,000 people,including Tablighi Jamaat attendees and their contacts,were quarantined across the country.
The first responses of the government of India to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country involved thermal screenings of passengers arriving from China,the country from which the coronavirus disease 2019 originated,as well as of passengers arriving from other countries. As the pandemic spread worldwide,the Indian government recommended social distancing measures and also initiated travel and entry restrictions. Throughout March 2020,several shutdowns and business closures were initiated,and by the end of the month,the Indian government ordered a widespread lockdown. An economic package was announced in May 2020.
On 9 August 2020,a major fire broke out in early morning hours at a COVID-19 facility located at the Hotel Swarna Palace in the city of Vijayawada,in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The fire blaze killed 11 people and wounded a further 22. The hotel was used as a temporary COVID-19 facility as it was leased out by the private hospital Ramesh Hospitals Vijayawada for the purpose of treating infected COVID-19 patients. An electrical short circuit was described as the ultimate reason for the incident. The fire had been brought under control by the firefighters within a space of 30 minutes. The patients who survived from the fire blaze were transferred to another quarantine centre.
