Rajeev Shukla (born 13 September 1959) is an Indian politician, former journalist, political commentator and the former chairman of Indian Premier League. In 2015, he was re-appointed unanimously as the Chairman of IPL by the BCCI. On 18 December 2020, he was elected unopposed Vice President of the BCCI. [2]

Early life

Rajeev Shukla was born on 13 September 1959 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.[ citation needed ] He was educated at Pandit Prithi Nath College, Kanpur [3] and at Christ Church College, Kanpur. [4] He then studied law at Vikramajit Singh Sanatan Dharma College, Kanpur. [5] Before entering politics, he was friend with Deepa saxena with whom he shared theator stage, he was a reporter for Hindi daily Jansatta . Shukla held this job until 1985, when he became a special correspondent for Ravivar Magazine.[ citation needed ] He was hired as a senior editor and he continued in that job until being elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2000. He has now joined the Indian National Congress. [6]

Personal life

Rajeev Shukla is married to Anurradha Prasad. Anurradha Prasad is Managing Director of B.A.G. Films and Media Limited, and is sister of Ravi Shankar Prasad. [7] The couple has one daughter Vaanya Shukla.

Political activities

Running as a member of the Akhil Bhartiya Loktantrik Congress Party, Shukla won by a large margin. [8] In 2003, his party merged with the Indian National Congress, and Shukla was appointed as a spokesperson. He was nominated as a secretary to the All India Congress Committee in January 2006. [9] In March 2006, Shukla was elected for a second term.[ citation needed ]

Shukla and Ranjeet Ranjan were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh in June 2022. [10]

Rajya Sabha elections were held in 2018 to elect the 65 retiring members of the Rajya Sabha, Indian Parliament's upper chamber. There were, as routine, three such elections held among relevant State and Union Territory legislators by single transferable vote (STV) and Open Ballot: on 16 January to elect 3 members from Delhi and 1 member from Sikkim; on 23 March to elect 58 members from 16 States; and lastly on 21 June to elect 3 members from Kerala. Being even-numbered, 2018 was a year in which about 30% of the State Legislature-elected 233-seat component of the body is elected. The other 12 seats of the body are appointed by the President.

Rajya Sabha elections were held on various dates in 2008, to elect members of the Rajya Sabha, Indian Parliament's upper chamber. The elections were held to elect respectively 55 members from 15 states, four members from Karnataka and one member from Mizoram and Aruncahl Pradesh, and 11 members from two states for the Council of States, the Rajya Sabha.

2019 Rajya Sabha elections were held throughout 2019, to fill the vacancies in the Rajya Sabha, the Indian Parliament's upper chamber. The elections were held to elect 2 members from Assam as well as 6 members from Tamil Nadu. By-elections were held for 14 seats among various states.

2020 Rajya Sabha elections were the set of indirect elections by the members of State legislatures of India, to elect new members to fill vacancies in the Rajya Sabha – the upper house of the Parliament of India. The elections are held annually and throughout the year on an ad hoc basis. The elections in 2020 are for a total of 73 seats of which 55 of them were to be elected by March 26. The remaining were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Election Commission of India later announced all the elections for the remaining 24 Rajya Sabha seats were to be held on 19 June 2020.

Syed Zafar Islam is an Indian Politician and former Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from the state of Uttar Pradesh. He is currently one of the national spokespersons of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Islam is a former investment banker and the former Managing director of the Indian subsidiary of Deutsche Bank. He is regarded as one of the prominent Muslim leaders of the party.

Rajya Sabha elections were held throughout 2022, to elect the retiring members of the Rajya Sabha, the Indian Parliament's upper house.
