Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was an Indian politician who served as the sixth president of India,serving from 1977 to 1982. Beginning a long political career with the Indian National Congress Party in the independence movement,he went on to hold several key offices in independent India –as Deputy Chief minister of Andhra state and the first chief minister of Andhra Pradesh,a two-time Speaker of the Lok Sabha and a Union Minister—before becoming the Indian president.
Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy served as the 9th chief minister of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh in 1983 and then from 1992 to 1994. Reddy was a member of the Indian National Congress and was elected to the Lok Sabha six times. Reddy also served as a Union cabinet Minister,along with serving on several parliamentary committees. He lost the 1999 elections and subsequently retired from active politics. Botanical Garden in Hyderabad is named after him.

In 2009 he was re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from the Chevella constituency and served as a Union Minister for Urban Development and Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas. He was the Union Minister for the Ministry of Earth Sciences and the Ministry of Science and Technology from 29 October 2012 to 18 May 2014.
