Doddalahalli Kempegowda Shivakumar (born 15 May 1962),also known by his initials as D. K. Shivakumar,is an Indian politician and businessman who is the 9th and Current Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and also Water resources and Bengaluru Development and Town Planning &Bengaluru Urban District Incharge Minister since 20 May 2023 as a member of the Indian National Congress. He is also the President of the Karnataka PCC since 2020 and was the Working President from 2008 to 2010. He was the cabinet minister in the Government of Karnataka from 2014 to 2019. He represented the Kanakapura constituency in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly since 2008 and from Sathanur Assembly constituency from 1989 to 2004.
Shivakumar was born to Kempegowda and Gouramma [1] in Kanakapura [2] near Bangalore,Karnataka. He belongs to the Vokkaliga community. [3]
He has a younger brother D. K. Suresh who's also a politician. [4] Shivakumar married Usha in 1993 and has two daughters,Aishwarya and Aabharana,and a son Aakash with her. His oldest daughter is married to Amartya,son of CaféCoffee Day founder V. G. Siddhartha. [5]
He is one of the richest politicians in India. [6]
Shivakumar started his political career in the early 1980s as a student leader and gradually rose through the ranks of the Congress party. He won his first election in 1989 when he was elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Sathanur constituency in the Mysuru district. He was just 27 years old at the time and contested the election on a Congress ticket. [7] Shivakumar went on to win re-election from the same constituency in the subsequent assembly elections in 1994,1999 and 2004. He won from Kanakapura constituency in 2008,2013,2018 and 2023. Vilasrao Deshmukh,during his tenure as Chief Minister of Maharashtra,worked closely with Shivakumar when he faced the motion of no confidence in 2002. Shivakumar hosted the Maharastra legislators in his resort located on the outskirts of Bangalore for a week until the date of the vote. This saved Deshmukh's government. [13]
Just before his election to the Rajya Sabha in 2017 from Gujarat,he assisted his party leadership to move 42 Gujarat Congress MLAs into his resort in Bengaluru to avoid them moving to another political party. Subsequently,this helped Ahmed Patel to win the election. [8] [14]
He is credited with playing a critical role in the formation of the coalition government of Indian National Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka following the 2018 election. [15]
He is also a close confidante of party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. [16] Shivakumar is among the richest politicians in India. While filing his nomination for election in 2018,he declared total assets of ₹840 crore. [17]
On 2 July 2020,Shivakumar officially took charge as Karnataka PCC president succeeding Dinesh Gundu Rao. [18]
On 20 May 2023,Shivakumar became the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka following the victory of the Congress party in the 2023 election.

Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda or Devegowda is an Indian politician who served as the Prime Minister of India from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997. He was previously the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996. He presently is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing Karnataka. He is the national president of the Janata Dal (Secular) party. Born in a farming family,he joined the Indian National Congress party in 1953,and remained a member until 1962. He was imprisoned during the Emergency. He became President of the state unit of Janata Dal in 1994,and was considered to be a driving force in the party's victory in Karnataka. He served as the 8th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996. In the 1996 general elections,no party won enough seats to form a government. When the United Front,a coalition of regional parties,formed the central government with the support of the Congress,Deve Gowda was unexpectedly chosen to head the government after V. P. Singh and Jyoti Basu declined the post and he was elected Prime Minister. During his tenure as prime minister,he also served as Home Minister for some time. His prime ministerial tenure lasted for less than a year. After his prime ministerial tenure,he was elected to the 12th (1998),14th (2004),15th,and 16th Lok Sabha,as Member of Parliament for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. He lost Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Tumkuru but has been elected to Rajya Sabha since.
Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna is an Indian politician who served as Minister of External Affairs of India from 2009 to October 2012. He was the 10th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004 and the 19th Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008. SM Krishna had served as the Speaker of the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha from December 1989 to January 1993. He was also a member of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at various times from 1971 to 2014. In 2023,Krishna was awarded the Padma Vibhushan,the second highest civilian award of India.

Haradanahalli Devegowda Kumaraswamy is an Indian politician and film producer who is serving as the Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel of India since 10 June 2024. He also served as the 18th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2018 to 2019 and previously from 2006 to 2007. He was also the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 2013 to 2014. He is currently the president of the Karnataka State Janata Dal (Secular). He is a member of Lok Sabha,having been elected from Mandya and the former member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Channapatna from 2018 to 2024,Ramanagara from 2004 to 2009 and from 2013 to 2018. He is the son of former prime minister of India &former Chief Minister of Karnataka H. D. Deve Gowda.

Kanakapura Lok Sabha constituency was a former Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka state in southern India. It included eight Assembly constituencies,namely Kanakapura,Ramanagaram,Channapatna,Magadi,Sathanur,Uttarahalli,Malavalli and Anekal. Out of them,Kanakapura,Ramanagaram,Channapatna,Magadi and Anekal assembly segments were retained in the Bangalore Rural constituency created in 2008 as part of delimitation in Karnataka. Sathanur segment was merged between Kanakapura,Ramanagaram and Channapatna constituencies. Malavalli became a part of Mandya constituency and Uttarahalli was reformed and Uttarahalli Circle was merged with new Bangalore South Assembly Constituency.

The Blue Line or ORR-Airport Metro Line is part of the Namma Metro rail network for the city of Bangalore,Karnataka,India. It consists of two sections - Phase-2A and Phase-2B. Construction of Phase-2A began in August 2021. Construction of Phase-2B began in February 2022. The 58.19 km line connects Central Silk Board with the Kempegowda International Airport. The Line is mostly elevated but also has an at-grade (surface) section close to the Airport and 2 short underground sections where it passes the Jakkur Aerodrome and Yelahanka AFB. There are 30 stations on the line of which the two station/s at the Airport may be at surface level or underground. Blue Line will have interchanges with the Yellow Line at Central Silk Board,Purple Line at KR Pura,Pink Line at Nagawara and with the future /proposed Orange Line at Hebbal.
Sathanur is a village in Ramanagara district of Karnataka,India. It is located around 70 km from the city of Bengaluru. The Bengaluru - Coimbatore National Highway 948 passes via this town.It is 18 km from Kanakapura and 27 km from Channapatna.
