Hemant Soren, incumbent Chief Minister of Jharkhand has appointed again in the office after winning the assembly elections in November 2024. The ministry will probably consist of maximum 12 members. Governor Santosh Gangwar administered the oath of office and secrecy to him on 28 November 2024 in Ranchi. [2] [3] [4]

Background

On 23 November 2024, Mahagathbandhan (MGB) won the 2024 assembly election in Jharkhand, with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) getting 34 seats. [5] Other members of Mahagathbandhan – Indian National Congress got 16 seats, Rashtriya Janata Dal 4 seats and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) 2 seats – making total of 56 out of 81 seats in Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. [6] [7]

Soren was unanimously elected as leader of MGB in Jharkhand Legislative Assembly and Gangwar designated to appoint him as Chief Minister. [8]

Vote of Confidence

A vote of confidence has been scheduled on 9 December during the oath ceremony of Soren. He designated Stephen Marandi as Speaker pro-tem of 6th Jharkhand Assembly. [9] [10]

Council of Ministers

Based on last ministry, Soren will lead the government with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha getting additional 6 ministers, Indian National Congress 4 and Rashtriya Janata Dal a lone minister. The cabinet was later appointed on 5 December.

Shibu Soren is an Indian politician who is currently member of Rajya Sabha representing Jharkhand and the leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. He formerly served as 3rd Chief Minister of Jharkhand, first in 2005 for 10 days, then from 2008 to 2009 and again from 2009 to 2010. He is also the President of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) political party, a constituent of the INDIA Alliance. Hemant Soren is an Indian politician who has served as the fifth and current Chief Minister of Jharkhand since 4 July 2024. He had previously served in the office from 2019 to 2024 and 2013 to 2014. He is also the working president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, a regional party. He represents Barhait constituency in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly since 2014 and has represented Dumka twice — from 2019 to 2020, and from 2009 to 2014. He was also the Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2010 to 2013, Leader of the Opposition, Jharkhand Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2019 and member of Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand, from 2009 to 2010.

Haji Hussain Ansari was an Indian politician and a leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He served as Minister of Minority Welfare and Registration Department in the Government of Jharkhand since 28 January 2020. Ansari was the first and only Muslim to become minister in the state of Jharkhand. He was elected to the Jharkhand Assembly on the JMM ticket four times from Madhupur Assembly constituency in 1995, 2000, 2009 and 2019 respectively. Mahagathbandhan, also known as Grand Alliance, is a coalition of political parties in the Eastern state of Bihar in India, formed ahead of the 2015 Vidhan Sabha elections in Bihar. The alliance consists of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Indian National Congress (INC) and Left parties including Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation-CPIML (Liberation) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM), with Tejashwi Yadav as the chairperson.

The 2024 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly election was held in three phases from 13 to 20 November 2024 to elect all 81 members of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. The counting of votes was done on 24 November 2024. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won 34 seats, securing 23.44% of the popular vote and Mahagathbandhan won 56 seats, securing 44.37% of the popular vote. The Bharatiya Janata Party won the popular vote, securing 33.18% of the total vote. The election was held under first-past-the-post voting. This was the second straight state election in Jharkhand where the party that won the most votes did not win the most seats.
