Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (lit. Jharkhand Democratic Revolutionary Front; abbr.JLKM) is a regional political party based in Jharkhand, India, founded by Jairam Kumar Mahato in 2024. [3] The party emerged from the Bhasha-Khatiyan Movement, which aimed to advocate for the rights of the Jharkhandi people.

Initially operating under the banner of the Jharkhandi Bhasha Khatiyan Sangharsh Samiti (JBKSS) from 2021, JLKM was officially registered as a political party with the Election Commission of India in August 2024. [4] [5] Scissor is its election symbol.

History

Formation

Jairam Kumar Mahato, a student leader turned Language activist formed a new political party and named it Jharkhandi Bhasha Khatian Sangharsh Samiti (JBKSS) on June 18, 2023. Later the name of the party was changed to Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) while it's registration with Election Commission of India. The formation of the party took place at Baliapur, Dhanbad. [6]

2024 elections

In 2024 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly election, the party contested on 68 seats. The party emerged victorious in 1 seat and claimed runner-up spot in 3 seats. [7] The party's founding president Jairam Kumar Mahato won from Dumri Assembly constituency. [8] In at least 16 constituencies, JLKM secured the 3rd position. The party garnered fourth-highest vote share after BJP, JMM and Congress marking a remarkable debut in the Jharkhand's Political Landscape. [9] [10]

The 2024 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly election was held in three phases from 13 to 20 November 2024 to elect all 81 members of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. The counting of votes was done on 24 November 2024. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won 34 seats, securing 23.44% of the popular vote and Mahagathbandhan won 56 seats, securing 44.37% of the popular vote. The Bharatiya Janata Party won the popular vote, securing 33.18% of the total vote. The election was held under first-past-the-post voting. This was the second straight state election in Jharkhand where the party that won the most votes did not win the most seats.

2021–2022 Language Movement in Jharkhand is a language movement organized on 2021 in Jharkhand, which is still going on in 2022. The people's demand was expressed to protect the local language and to prevent the aggression of other languages on the local language. Local language rights activists in Dhanbad and Bokaro protested against the inclusion of Bhojpuri, Magahi and Maithili languages in the state government's list of regional languages for Dhanbad and Bokaro, and launched a series of movements under the banner of Jharkhandi Bhasa Bachao Sangharsh Samiti. On 30 January 2022, Local language right activists making a 50- km long human chain from Telmachcho to Chandankiyari in Bokaro with intensely protests. The voice of the protesters on that day was "Bahari Bhasa Nei Chalto", means outsiders' languages will not work.

Amit Mahto is an Indian politician and a member of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly from Silli and won Vidhan Sabha election in 2014. He was a member of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and considered the face of youth in the Jharkhand Political Party.
