Giridih is headquarters of the Giridih district of Jharkhand state,India. The city of Giridih is known for its industrial and health sectors,as well as its scenery. Giridih houses the Giridih Coalfield which is one of the oldest coalfields to be worked in India. Giridih is one of the six Data Processing Centres of Data Processing Division (DPD) of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO). Before 1972,Giridih was part of Hazaribagh district.
Tek Lal Mahto was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He was one of the founders and key members of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) political party,and served five terms in the Jharkhand state legislature. He was a delegate to the Bihar assembly in 1985,represented the Giridih constituency in the Lok Sabha between 2004 and 2009,and JMM from Mandu Assembly constituency at the time of his death. He died of a cardiac arrest at the hospital of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences where he was admitted the day before. He was survived by wife,two sons Ram Prakash Bhai Patel and Jai Prakash Bhai Patel with three daughters.
Hemant Soren is an Indian politician who has served as the fifth and current Chief Minister of Jharkhand since 4 July 2024. He had previously served in the office from 2019 to 2024 and 2013 to 2014. He is also the working president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha,a regional party. He represents Barhait constituency in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly since 2014 and has represented Dumka twice —from 2019 to 2020,and from 2009 to 2014. He was also the Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2010 to 2013,Leader of the Opposition,Jharkhand Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2019 and member of Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand,from 2009 to 2010.
Giridih railway station,station code GRD,is the main railway station serving the city of Giridih,the headquarters of Giridih district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. Giridih station also serves as a gateway for the Jain pilgrims visiting Parasnath. Giridih is located at 24.18°N 86.3°E. It has an elevation of 289 metres (948 ft).
Madhupur–Giridih–Koderma line is a 138 km (86 mi)-long single 5 ft 6 in broad gauge track from Madhupur town in Deoghar district to Koderma town in Koderma district via Giridih town in Giridih district of Jharkhand state. It is an extended route of Madhupur–Giridih railway line. The Koderma–Maheshmunda section falls under Dhanbad Division of East Central Railway and Giridih–Madhupur section under Asansol Division of Eastern Railway. The construction of 110 km (68 mi) rail line from Koderma to Maheshmunda was done under supervision of Dhanbad Division of East Central Railway.
