The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (abbreviated asLJP (RV)) is an Indian political party formed in 2021 under the leadership of Chirag Paswan. [3] Election Commission of India froze the symbol of erstwhile main Lok Janshakti Party [4] and allotted new name and symbol to both factions. [5] It is now one of two separate factions - the other being the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party. [6] [7]

Electoral history

Nagaland

LJP (RV) fielded candidates in 15 seats - two candidates won from Pughoboto and Tobu and eight candidates came second in eight other seats. The party received "state party" status in Nagaland, with around 8.65% of total votes. [8] [9]

Jharkhand

LJP (RV) fielded 1 candidate as part of the National Democratic Alliance from Chatra Assembly constituency. It won from the only seat it contested and had an overall vote share of 0.61%.

Ram Vilas Paswan was an Indian politician from Bihar and the Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the first and second Modi ministries. Paswan was also the president of the Lok Janshakti Party, nine-times Lok Sabha member and two-time Rajya Sabha MP. He started his political career as member of Samyukta Socialist Party and was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969. Later, Paswan joined Lok Dal upon its formation in 1974, and became its general secretary. He opposed the emergency, and was arrested during this period. He first entered the Lok Sabha in 1977, as a Janata Party member from Hajipur constituency, and was elected again in 1980, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2014.

He wanted to run against Narendra Modi in the 2014 national elections, but could not get a party to back him. Manishankar Pandey is an Indian politician from the state of Uttar Pradesh. Pandey has completed his BA, MA & LLB from Banaras Hindu University. He represented the Uttar Pradesh Legislative council from 1989 to 1995. He was active in the Indian National Congress Party for more than 45 years from the 1960s to 2018. In 2018, Manishankar Pandey left Indian National Congress Party for joining Lok Janshakti Party. Ram Vilas Paswan appointed Manishankar Pandey as state president for Uttar Pradesh Lok Jan Shakti Party wing the moment he joined the party. During the split of Lok Jan Shakti Party, Pandey stood with the Chirag Paswan faction. Now, Manishankar Pandey is acting as State President for the Uttar Pradesh Lok Janshakti Party wing.

Arun Bharti is an Indian politician. He has been elected to Lok Sabha from Jamui Lok Sabha constituency. He is a member of Lok Janshakti Party party.

Rajesh Verma is an Indian politician, businessman, former Deputy Mayor of Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation and member of Lok Janshakti Party. He has been elected as Member of Parliament from Khagaria Lok Sabha constituency Bihar in 18th Lok Sabha election. He joined Lok Janshakti in July 2020.

Sukhato A. Sema is an Indian politician from Nagaland. He is an MLA from Pughoboto Assembly constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes, in Zunheboto District. He won the 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election, representing the Lok Janshakti Party.
