Nagaland Legislative Assembly

The Nagaland Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Nagaland. Nagaland became a state of India on 1 December 1963 and after election in January 1964, the first Nagaland Legislative Assembly was formed on 11 February 1964. [6] In 1974, the strength of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly was increased to the present strength of 60 members. [7]

There is no nominated member in the House, all the members are elected on the basis of adult franchise from single-seat constituencies. The normal tenure of the House is five years unless dissolved sooner. The seat of the Legislative Assembly is Kohima, the capital of Nagaland.

    The Nationalist Congress Party is one of the state parties in India and is one of the major political parties in Maharashtra with a recognised state party status in Nagaland and Kerala.     Maharashtra is India's third largest state by area and has over 112 million inhabitants. Its capital, Mumbai, has a population of approximately 18 million; Nagpur is Maharashtra's second, or winter, capital. Government in the state is organized on the parliamentary system. Power is devolved to large city councils, district councils, subdistrict (taluka) councils, and village parish councils. The numerically strong Maratha–Kunbi community dominates the state's politics. The state has national and regional parties serving different demographics, such as those based on religion, caste, and urban and rural residents.

    P. Shilu Ao was an Indian politician who was involved in the negotiations leading to the creation of Nagaland, in the north-eastern part of India, as one of the states and territories of India in December 1963. Ao then served as the first Chief Minister of Nagaland until August 1966. Ao played a part in persuading the Indian Government and the Lok Sabha to grant Nagaland separate statehood but was not able to reconcile many Naga nationalists who regarded him and his party, as stooges of the central government.

    Charan Sovinda Waghmare is a politician who served as a member of the 13th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2019. He was elected as MLA from the Tumsar - Mohadi Assembly Constituency. And he is very likely known leader in his constituency. He belonged to the local established party Vikas Foundation as chairperson and he is member of Nationalist Congress Party. In 2012, Waghmare was chairman of finance and works committee of Bhandara Zilla Parishad. In 2014 he was President of Bhandara District BJP.

    The North-East Democratic Alliance is a political coalition that was formed on May 24, 2016, by Bharatiya Janata Party. The motive of the new political front was to unite non-Congress parties in Northeast India. Himanta Biswa Sarma was appointed as the convenor of the front.

    The elections to the 13th Nagaland State Legislative Assembly was held on 27th February 2018 in 59 out of its 60 constituencies, with one member elected unopposed. The counting of votes took place on 3rd March 2018. The incumbent Naga People's Front (NPF) lost the elections, while Chief minister T. R. Zeliang retained his seat. Former NPF leader, Neiphiu Rio joined the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) before the elections. Subsequently, with two-thirds majority in the assembly, the NDPP-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance formed the government with Rio as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland.

    The 2024 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election was held on 20 November 2024 to elect all 288 members of the state's Legislative Assembly to elect 288 members of the 15th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. The turnout for the election was 66.05%, the highest since 1995. The ruling Maha Yuti alliance won a landslide victory, winning 235 seats. None of the parties in the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance won the necessary number of seats to obtain the position of leader of opposition, a first in six decades.

    Neiba Ndang is a politician from Nagaland, India. He was the Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 1993 to 1998. He was elected to the State Legislature representing Peren Constituency in 1993 and 1998 Assembly Election.

    Salhoutuonuo Kruse is an Indian politician from Nagaland. In 2023, along with Hekani Jakhalu Kense, Kruse became the first woman to be elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. She was appointed the Minister for Women Resource Development & Horticulture in the 5th Rio ministry, making her also the first female cabinet minister in Nagaland. She previously served as a president of the Angami Women Organization.

    The Fourteenth Nagaland Assembly is formed by the members elected in 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election. Election were held in 59 constituencies on 27th February 2023 and 1 member elected unopposed from Akuluto. Votes were counted on 2nd March 2023.

    K.Naiba Konyak is an Indian politician from Nagaland. He is a four time MLA from Tobu Assembly constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes, in Mon District. He won the 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election, representing Lok Janshakti Party.

    Imkongmar is an Indian politician from Nagaland. He is an MLA from Mongoya Assembly constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribe community, in Mokokchung District. He won the 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election, representing Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party.

    Picto Shohe is an Indian politician from Nagaland. He is an MLA from Atoizu Assembly constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribe community, in Zunheboto District. He won the 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election, representing Nationalist Congress Party.
