Meluri district is a district in the Indian state of Nagaland. It was formed in October 2024. [1]
The Meluri established as a 'Chairman Bench Court' in 1958, which was upgraded to Circle Officer in 1959. It was elevated to Assistant Commissioner-II, then to Extra Assistant Commissioner in 1969, Sub-Divisional Office (SDO) in 1981, and finally to a Sub-Division (ADC) in 2008. [2] The creation of a separate district has been a long-term demand of the Pochury tribe. In October 2024, the district was created by carving it out of Phek district. [3]
It covers an area of 1,011 sq km. There are 31 recognized villages, one Town Council (Meluri Town Council) and three EAC administrative headquarters in the district. [2] It is part of Meluri Assembly constituency
The district had a population of 22,558 in 2011 and is populated mostly by the Pochury Naga tribe. [2]

Jessami is a village in Ukhrul district, Manipur, India. Jessami is a border village in the extreme north of Manipur State and borders with Meluri, a border village of Nagaland State. The village came to national attention in 2015 when a fatal bus accident claimed the lives of 13 passengers.

Medziphema Town and Medziphema Village are situated few kilometers apart, the village stands on a hill top to the north of the near-valley Town. It is located 44 km from the Capital City of Kohima, 20 km from Chümoukedima and 33 km from Dimapur. The National Highway 29 runs through the Town area.
The Pochurys are a Naga ethnic group inhabiting the Northeast Indian state of Nagaland. They mostly live in the eastern part of the Phek district, centered at Meluri town.
