The All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) is a left-wing nationalist political party in India. It emerged as a faction within the Indian National Congress in 1939, led by Subhas Chandra Bose. The party re-established as an independent political party after the independence of India. It has its main stronghold in West Bengal. The party's current Secretary-General is Debabrata Biswas. Veteran Indian politicians Sarat Chandra Bose and Chitta Basu had been the stalwarts of the party in independent India.
The Revolutionary Communist Party of India is a small political party in India. The party was founded as the Communist League by Saumyendranath Tagore in 1934, breaking away from the Communist Party of India (CPI). RCPI led armed uprisings after the independence of India, but later shifted to parliamentary politics. The party is active in the West Bengal and Assam. The party was represented in the West Bengal Second United Front Cabinet (1969) as well as in various state government during the Left Front rule in the state (1977–2011). In Assam the party won four Legislative Assembly seats in 1978, but its political influence has since declined.

The Nandigram violence was an incident that took place in Nandigram, East Midnapore, West Bengal, India, in 2007. This event occurred in the aftermath of a failed project by the Government of West-Bengal, under the former Communist rule, to acquire land for a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The policy led to an emergency in the region in which 14 people died during a police shooting. This incident played a crucial role in the politics of West Bengal for the following few years. Mamata Banerjee and her political party mentioned this issue, and the political war cry Ma Mati Manush was kicked off in their election campaigns. Later, the Central Bureau of Investigation officially exonerated the Buddhadeb Bhattacharya government over the shootings.

Kiranmoy Nanda ; is an Indian politician, belonging to the Samajwadi Party. He was the Fisheries Minister in the Left Front cabinet in the state of West Bengal since 1982 till 2011 when he was succeeded by Congress MLA Abu Hena. Nanda was the general secretary of the West Bengal Socialist Party for many years. Nanda served as general secretary of the Samajwadi Party between 1996 and 2000 as the WBSP had merged with SP. In 2000, after the Kolkata Municipal Corporation election, Nanda broke with SP and reconstituted the WBSP. In April 2010 he again became general secretary of SP, as WBSP again merged with SP. Nanda replaced Amar Singh.
