The Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) was an unrecognised registered political party in India. It was nationally launched by Sharad Yadav and Ali Anwar [4] in May 2018. [5] [6] [7] The party was formed after Yadav parted ways from Janata Dal (United), due to its alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar. [8] [9] [10] Sharad Yadav merged with Rashtriya Janata Dal but not the whole Lokatantrik Janata Dal. After Sharad Yadav's death in 2023, the party made his president Javed Raza. [11]

Bahujan Mukti Party a political wing of BAMCEF was merged with Loktantrik Janata Dal. [12] [13] Pravendra Pratap Singh is the current president of the Bahujan Mukti party. [14]

The Veerendra Kumar fraction of the Janata Dal (United) unit of Kerala under the leadership of M. P. Veerendra Kumar merged with the party. [15]

LJD merged with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on 20 March 2022, Sharad Yadav has taken up the task of re-uniting all the former Janata Dal factions and other parties with similar ideologies to put forward a united opposition for 2024 Lok Sabha elections. [16] [17] [18] Though the Kerala unit led by M. V. Shreyams Kumar of the party did not join RJD. [19] The Kerala faction merged with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on 12 October 2023. [20]

Upendra Kumar Singh, commonly known as Upendra Kushwaha is an Indian politician, and a former Member of Bihar Legislative Council and Bihar Legislative Assembly. He has also served as Minister of State for Human Resources and Development in the Government of India. Kushwaha is a former Member of Parliament (MP) from the Karakat constituency in Rohtas district, Bihar, and a former member of the Rajya Sabha. He was the leader of Rashtriya Samata Party (RSP), his own party, which merged into Janata Dal (United) (JDU) in 2009. Later, he formed Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP), which also merged with JD(U) in 2021. On 20 February 2023, Kushwaha resigned from all positions in Janata Dal (United) and formed his own party called Rashtriya Lok Morcha due to his political problems with JD(U) and Nitish Kumar. Kushwaha contested the Lok Sabha election of 2024 from Karakat constituency and finished at a distant third position. However, he was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha in August 2024.

Misa Bharti Yadav is an Indian politician from the state of Bihar and the daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi and is the Member of Parliament from Patliputra. In June 2016, she was the party's nominee for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections and was elected unopposed along with Ram Jethmalani from Bihar.

Mahagathbandhan, also known as Grand Alliance, is a coalition of political parties in the Eastern state of Bihar in India, formed ahead of the 2015 Vidhan Sabha elections in Bihar. The alliance consists of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Indian National Congress (INC) and Left parties including Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation-CPIML (Liberation) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM), with Tejashwi Yadav as the chairperson.

Ramai Ram was an Indian politician from Bihar. He was a prominent Dalit leader. He was associated with many political parties in his 50 year long political career; Janta Paty, Rashtriya Janta Dal, Janata Dal(United) and VIP. He was nine times MLA from Bochahan constituency of Muzaffarpur district in Bihar.

The 1999 Indian general election in Bihar were held for 54 seats with the state going to polls in the last three phases of the general elections. The major contenders in the state were the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Congress led alliance. NDA, an alliance formed in last election, consisted of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) whereas the Congress led alliance was constituted of the Indian National Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), Communist Party of India and the Marxist Co-ordination Committee.
