The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a United Nations related organization working in the field of migration. The organization implements operational assistance programmes for migrants, including internally displaced persons, refugees, and migrant workers.
An internally displaced person (IDP) is someone who is forced to leave their home but who remains within their country's borders. They are often referred to as refugees, although they do not fall within the legal definitions of a refugee.
A refugee camp is a temporary settlement built to receive refugees and people in refugee-like situations. Forced displacement is an involuntary or coerced movement of a person or people away from their home or home region. The UNHCR defines 'forced displacement' as follows: displaced "as a result of persecution, conflict, generalized violence or human rights violations".
A humanitarian crisis is defined as a singular event or a series of events that are threatening in terms of health, safety or well-being of a community or large group of people. It may be an internal or external conflict and usually occurs throughout a large land area. Local, national and international responses are necessary in such events.

Climate migration is a subset of climate-related mobility that refers to movement driven by the impact of sudden or gradual climate-exacerbated disasters, such as "abnormally heavy rainfalls, prolonged droughts, desertification, environmental degradation, or sea-level rise and cyclones". Gradual shifts in the environment tend to impact more people than sudden disasters. The majority of climate migrants move internally within their own countries, though a smaller number of climate-displaced people also move across national borders.
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development is a Nigerian ministry whose mission is to develop humanitarian policies and provide effective coordination of National and International humanitarian interventions. It was established on Wednesday August 21, 2019 by an Executive pronouncement by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, H.E., Muhammadu Buhari GCFR at the inauguration of Ministers for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The National Senior Citizen Centre (NSCC) is an agency of Nigeria's Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
The National Senior Citizens Act, 2018 is an act which was passed by the Federal Government of Nigeria to cater for the needs of the senior citizens. The act was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari and led to the establishment of the National Senior Citizens Centre in Nigeria to cater for the needs of the senior citizens. The National Senior Citizens Centre is domiciled with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
The 2022 Nigeria floods affected many parts of the country. From the Federal Government Data, the floods had displaced over 1.4 million people, killed over 603 people, and injured more than 2,400 people. About 82,035 houses had been damaged, and 332,327 hectares of land had also been affected.
