NH07 or Kanchanpur-Charaghatti-Kalabanjar-Chatara is a proposed National Highway of Nepal which will be constructed between Koshi Province and Madhesh Province. [1] [2]
The life of the Koshi Barrage (Mahendra Highway "NH01") has come to an end so there is a need of an alternative route so a road will be constructed to bypass the Koshi Barrage. It is mentioned in the detailed project report that it will cost 21.74 billion rupees to construct a Koshi bridge and 20.63 billion rupees to construct the highway. It is estimated that the construction of the project including roads and bridges will cost around 33 billion, 10 million rupees. [3]
A new route will be constructed from Kanchanpur in Kanchanrup Municipality of Saptari District on the East-West Highway to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. After that, there is a plan to construct a three-kilometer long bridge to cross the Saptakoshi River from the northern border of the reserve through the eastern side of the reserve. To connect the said road and the bridge to the East-West Highway, there is a plan to construct a road directly east from the bridge at Kanchi Chowk near Pakli of Sunsari. [4]
The Kosi or Koshi is a transboundary river which flows through China, Nepal and India. It drains the northern slopes of the Himalayas in Tibet and the southern slopes in Nepal. From a major confluence of tributaries north of the Chatra Gorge onwards, the Kosi River is also known as the Saptakoshi for its seven upper tributaries. These include the Tamur River originating from the Kanchenjunga area in the east and Arun River and the Sun Kosi from Tibet. The Sun Koshi's tributaries from east to west are the Dudh Koshi, Likhu Khola, Tamakoshi River, Bhote Koshi and Indravati. The Saptakoshi crosses into northern Bihar, India where it branches into distributaries before joining the Ganges near Kursela in Katihar district. The Kosi is the third-largest tributary of the Ganges by water discharge after the Ghaghara and the Yamuna.
Triyuga is one of the eight municipalities of Udayapur district of the Koshi Pradesh of Nepal. Gaighat is the headquarter of the municipality. At the 1991 Nepal census, it had a population of 55,291. The 2011 Nepal census counted 87,557 inhabitants. According to the 2021 Nepal census the total population of the municipality is 102,725. It is divided into 16 wards. Triyuga Municipality was established on B.S. Chaitra 13, 2053. It was named after Triyuga River. A river which flows through the town. Triyuga is the 3rd largest municipality in Nepal and 1st largest in Koshi Pradesh in term of size (area). The total area of the municipality is 547.43 square kilometres (211.36 sq mi)
Mahendra Highway or NH01, also called East-West Highway, runs across the Terai geographical region of Nepal, from Mechinagar in the east to Bhim Datta in the west, cutting across the entire width of the country. It is the longest highway in Nepal and was constructed in cooperation with various countries. The highway is named after King Mahendra Shah.
The Sialkot-Lahore Motorway (M11) is a north-south motorway in Punjab, Pakistan, which connects Sialkot to Lahore via eastern parts of the Punjab. The total length of this motorway is 103 km. It was opened on 18 March 2020 at the cost of 44 billion rupees. It has reduced the travel time between Sialkot and Lahore to just 50 minutes instead of the alternative route via N-5 comprising 145 km and taking more than 2 hours. This new road connects the Sialkot and Lahore Airport junctions with an express travel mode of 1 hour, and would uplift the Sialkot city and the surrounding rural hinterlands.
The Koshi Barrage is a sluice across the Koshi river that carries vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic between Saptari district and Sunsari district of Nepal. It is near the International border with India. It was built between 1958 and 1962 and has 56 gates. It was constructed after the Koshi Agreement was signed between the Government of Nepal and India on April 25, 1954. The barrage was designed and built by Joseph and Company Limited, India. The Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is roughly 3–4 miles north of the barrage.
Prakashpur is a small town in Sunsari District in the Koshi Zone in southeastern Nepal.It lies in ward no.10 of Barahakshetra municipality.It is near the Indo-Nepal border.It is famous for its beautiful and peaceful environment. Most of the people come here to visit Koshi river which is one of the longest river in Nepal. It is also famous for its diversity in culture.
Phidim Municipality is the headquarters of the Panchthar District in the Koshi Province of eastern Nepal. Phidim old name is Pheden in Limbu langauage its means Plan land of top of hills.Phidim was capital of panthar thum of Limbuwan.Phidim was upgraded to a 'municipality' from a 'village', when a development committee merged with other VDCs - including the Phidim, Chokmagu and Siwa villages - on May 18, 2014. It offers a route for trekkers and locals, who travel to and from the Taplejung district bordering with the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China. It is also a commercial hub for the rural surroundings.
The Sharda River is the downstream of Kali River that originates in the northern Uttarakhand state of India in the Great Himalayas on the eastern slopes of Nanda Devi massif, at an elevation of 3,600 m (11,800 ft) in the Pithoragarh district. It then flows between the Nepal and India border. Descending, it enters the Indo-Gangetic Plain at Brahmadev Mandi in Nepal, where it expands above the Sharda Barrage. From that point onward, it is known as the Sharda River. The river proceeds southeastward into India through northern Uttar Pradesh before merging with the Ghaghara River southwest of Bahraich, covering a distance of approximately 300 miles.
The Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH), which includes an existing 1,811 km (1,125 mi) route comprising NH-13 and parts of NH-15, NH-215 and SH-25, is an under-construction 2-lane more than 2,407 km (1,496 mi) long highway passing through 16 districts in Arunachal Pradesh state in India. It runs from LAC in Tawang in northwest to Kanubari in southeast at tri-junction of Assam-Nagaland-Arunachal Pradesh. It connects at least 16 districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Mechi Bridge is a bridge that connects Nepal from the Jhapa District to the Darjeeling district in West Bengal, India. Built over Mechi River, this bridge is considered an Eastern Trade point between Nepal and India. It was inaugurated in January 2019.
Department of Railways under Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport is the authority to develop, maintain and plan railways in Nepal. It has its headquarter at Bishalnagar, Kathmandu. Currently it maintains three in-operation railway lines in the country: Raxaul–Sirsiya, Jainagar–Bhangaha and Bathnaha-Budhnagar. It is equivalent to Department of Road for road infrastructure. It has several lines planned.
NH06 or Tamor Corridor is a National Highway of Nepal that connects Terai in Sunsari District to Hills in Panchthar District in Koshi Province. It runs parallel of Tamur River via Sunsari District, Dhankuta District, Tehrathum District and Panchthar District. It starts from Tribeni (Chatara) of Barahakshetra Municipality in Sunsari and ends at Ambarpur of Hilihang Rural Municipality in Panchthar District. The total length of the road is 145 kilometres (90 mi).
NH04 or Birtamod-Bhadrapur road is a short National Highway of Nepal, located in Jhapa District of Koshi Province. The total length of the highway is just 12.53 kilometres (7.79 mi). The road is fully black topped four lane National Highway.
NH10 or Deurali-Mudhe-Bohoratar Highway is a National Highway of Nepal located in Koshi Province. The whole section of the highway is in Sankhuwasabha District. The total length of the highway is 92 kilometres (57 mi). The road section starts from Deurali and runs via Mudhe Sanishchare, Chainpur and finalizes merging with NH08 at Bohoratar.
Siddhicharan Highway (NH20) is a National Highway of Nepal located between Madhesh Province and Koshi Province. The total length of the highway is 193 kilometres (120 mi) which passes through Siraha District of Madhesh Province and Udayapur District, Okhaldhunga District, Solukhumbu District of Koshi Province. It starts in Terai region at Madar and crosses NH01 in Mirchaiya Municipality and runs towards north where it passes through Sivalik Hills and enters in Inner Terai valley in Katari Municipality, at there it crosses NH09 then it moves further north climbing Mahabharat Range or Lesser Himalayas where it crosses NH03 (Mid-Hills Highway and enters hilly town Okhaldhunga of Siddhicharan Municipality. It crosses NH75 at Okhaldhunga and runs further North towards Salleri. The distance between Okhaldhunga to Salleri is 57.7 kilometres.
NH75 is a provincial National Highway under construction in Koshi Province of Nepal. The total length of the ringroad highway is 135 kilometres (84 mi).
National Highway 59, NH59 is a proposed national highway in Nepal which is being constructed in Karnali Province. The total length of the highway is supposed to be 187.91 kilometres (116.76 mi). According to SNH2020-21 53.74 kilometres (33.39 mi) of the road has already been opened and 33.74 km (20.97 mi) of the road has been paved.
National Highway 67 (NH67) is a proposed national highway in Nepal located in Sudurpashchim Province. The total length of the highway is 198.14 kilometres (123.12 mi) in which 25.79 km (16.03 mi) of the track has been opened. The road from Brahmadev to Dattu is marked as National Highway 67.
