The National Law School of India University is a public law school and a National Law University located in Bangalore, Karnataka. It was the first National Law University to be established in India as well as one of the first in the country to offer the five-year integrated undergraduate law degree, post graduate law degree and doctorate law degree.
Neelakanta Ramakrishna Madhava Menon was an Indian civil servant, lawyer and legal educator, considered by many as the father of modern legal education in India. He is the founder of National Law Universities system and first director of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) and the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal and the founder-vice-chancellor of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS). He has also served as Chairman of Indian Statistical Institute from 2002 to 2003.

National Law Universities (NLU) or National Law Schools are central public law schools in India, founded pursuant to the second-generation reforms for legal education sought to be implemented by the Bar Council of India. Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) is a public law school and a National Law University in New Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India. The University is named after the former Chief Justice of India, Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah. It is one of the autonomous law schools in India and being sixth in the series of such national law schools. It was established as a centre for legal excellence by the Government of Chhattisgarh under the Hidayatullah National University of Law, Chhattisgarh, Act. The university offers a B.A. LL.B. Most private and self-financed law schools in India also use these scores for law admissions. Public sector undertakings in India like ONGC, Coal India, BHEL, Steel Authority of India, Oil India etc. use CLAT Post Graduation scores for recruitment of legal positions in the companies.
