Neil M. Westaway, AO of Victoria, Australia served as the Chief Commissioner of the Scout Association of Australia, as well as the Chairman of the World Scout Committee and the Chairman of the Board of Scout Resources International (SCORE), replacing Kun-Bae Park. [1]

Westaway began his career as a Cub Scout in Australia. As an adult leader, he became the Victoria State commissioner, the 16th World Scout Jamboree Camp Chief, and is currently a member of the World Scout Foundation.

16th World Scout Jamboree

The 16th World Scout Jamboree was held 30 December 1987 to 7 January 1988, the first World Scout Jamboree held in the Southern Hemisphere, and the first to change the date from the traditional August to January to coincide with summer. The Jamboree was hosted by Australia at Cataract Scout Park a specially constructed Scout tent city situated on a 160-hectare site at Appin, New South Wales, near Sydney, New South Wales. 14,434 Scouts from 84 countries attended the Jamboree, with around 13,000 more in attendance on "Visiting Day". The theme was Bringing the World Together.

In October 1999, Westaway was awarded the 281st Bronze Wolf , the only distinction of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, awarded by the World Scout Committee for exceptional services to world Scouting, from King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. [2] [3]

World Organization of the Scout Movement international Scouting organization

The World Organization of the Scout Movement is the largest international Scouting organization. WOSM has 170 members. These members are recognized national Scout organizations, which collectively have over 50 million participants. WOSM was established in 1922, and has its operational headquarters at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and its legal seat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the counterpart of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

Westaway was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours for "distinguished service to youth through Scouts at the national and international level, and to the community of Victoria". [4]

The 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours for Australia were announced on 10 June 2019 by the Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove. The Birthday Honours were appointments by some of the 16 Commonwealth realms of Queen Elizabeth II to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by citizens of those countries. The Birthday Honours are awarded as part of the Queen's Official Birthday celebrations during the month of June.
