Nelson Mandela High School is a high school based in Waterloo, in the Western Area Rural District, Sierra Leone. The school was established in 2007. Notwithstanding that this is a private school, many of the pupils are from very poor backgrounds.
In February 2014, led by Mr John Power, six pupils from Merchant Taylors' Girls' School visited Nelson Mandela High School. The week-long visit saw the opening of a new 3-room classroom block at the school, paid for by pupils at Merchant Taylors' Girls' School. As a mark of thanks for the work that Mr John Power had done for the York Road community in Waterloo, Sierra Leone, he was crowned Chief Kombrbai II.
Nelson Mandela High is partnered through the British Council's Connecting Classrooms Programme with Merchant Taylors' Girls' School in Crosby, Merseyside, England. [1] Since 2010, the schools have participated in exchange visits. [2] The partnership has enabled Nelson Mandela High to become a 'Sustainable School'. [1]
Mr George Sandi became the new school principal in late 2012. Since then the school has strengthened its partnership with Merchant Taylors' Girls' School in Liverpool. Visits have taken place to the UK and to Sierra Leone to exchange teaching resources and ideas. In June 2013, Merchant Taylors' Girls' School agreed to fund the building of a new 3-block classroom building on the present school site.
Graça Machel is a Mozambican politician and humanitarian. She is the widow of former President of Mozambique Samora Machel (1975–1986) and former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela (1998–2013). Machel is an international advocate for women's and children's rights and was made an honorary British Dame by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997 for her humanitarian work. She is the only woman in modern history to have served as First Lady of two countries, South Africa and Mozambique.
Coombe Dean School Academy, opened in 1976, is a secondary school located on the outskirts of Plymouth, Devon, England. As of April 2018, it had 970 pupils. The school gained Specialist School status in September 2003. Ofsted awarded the school 'Outstanding' status in 2009 and 2012. However, in November 2018 the school received 'Requires Improvement'. As a high performing school, Coombe Dean was given the option to become an independent academy in 2010, which was actioned in September 2011.

Waterloo is located about twenty miles east of Freetown. Waterloo is the second largest city in the Western Area region of Sierra Leone, after Freetown. Bury St Edmunds County High School, previously Bury St Edmunds County Upper School, is a 13 to 19 co-educational comprehensive high-performing academy part of the Bury St Edmunds All-Through Trust, comprising County High School, Horringer Court School, Westley School and Barrow CEVC and Tollgate Primaries. It is one of three 13-18 schools serving the town of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, England and its surrounding villages. Pupils enter Year 9 primarily from three catchment middle schools in Bury St Edmunds but pupils are drawn widely from across the villages and towns of West Suffolk. The school is often over-subscribed with 266 first-choice applicants in 2009/10, 287 in 2010/11, 282 for 2011/12, 279 for 2012/13 and 268 for 2014/15 against a LEA Planned Admission Number of 260. In September 2013 the number of pupils on roll was 992 and it is expected that will remain relatively unchanged for the foreseeable future. Attached to the main school is a Sixth Form, which at present stands at around 209 students spread between Years 12 and 13. The school is located on Beetons Way, on the outskirts of town, next to St Benedict's Roman Catholic Upper School, with which it used to collaborate in the sixth form.

The Bambisanani Partnership is a collaboration developed by St Mary's Menston Catholic Voluntary Academy in Menston in West Yorkshire, England and Mnyakanya School in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. "Bambisanani" is the Zulu word for “working hand in hand”. The Bambisanani Partnership has used sport as a catalyst to develop international understanding, education, health and leadership. The initiative, which began in 2006, has gained both national and international acclaim. The University of Leeds and Leeds Trinity University are now members of the partnership and like St. Mary’s School regularly have students visit South Africa to extend the work of the partnership.
