Neringa Siaudikyte (born 12 October) is a Lithuanian singer and songwriter. [1] [2] She is best known for appearances in The Voice and her songs Echo, Su Tavim and Thank You. [3] [4]

Early life and education

Siaudikyte was born in Kaunas in Lithuania. Her mother used to be a professional piano player. When Siaudikyte was 6 years old she joined a musical school and eventually began learning to play the piano. She started singing in a private band in her city and gained much popularity leading to her participating in international singing competitions around Europe. Later, when she was 14 years, Siaudikyte enrolled in the Kauno Aleksandro Kačanausko musical school in Kaunas. She also acquired a bachelor’s degree in history from VDU.

Career

Siaudikyte started her career in 2012 when she signed with The Voice of Lithuania. She joined the Violeta-Terasoviene team and went to the finals. In the same year, Siaudikyte joined the Eurovision song contest of Lithuania and performed the song “Used to be” written by Raigardas Tautkus. [5] [6]

In 2013, Siaudikyte was selected for the Balso Deives project and he did a special performance night in Theatre Arena. [7] [8]

In 2014 Siaudikyte participated in the Tv show and competition Žvaigždžių duetai with famous actor Aistis Mickevicius which was broadcast on the LNK TV channel. [9] [10]

In 2015 Siaudikyte participated in the “UNIVERSONG” international vocal competition in Tenerif, Spain, and later in the Kaunas Talent international vocal competition where she acquired a runners up position. [11] Siaudikyte performance at GALA concert of “Kaunas Talent in “Zalgirio Arena” in Kaunas. [12] [13]

In 2018, Siaudikyte again participated in the “Carpathia festival” International vocal competition. First time in this competition's history, a Lithuanian singer won the GRAND PRIX award. [14] [15]

The country reached the top ten for a second time in 2016, when Donny Montell finished ninth with "I've Been Waiting for This Night", and for the third time in 2021, finishing eighth with The Roop and "Discoteque".

In 1998, the stadium was renovated according to UEFA regulations, and in 2005, it was modernised with the installation of the biggest stadium television screen in the Baltic states. The latest renovation started in 2018 and ended in 2022. During the sporting season, at least 50 events are held here annually.

The case of Drąsius Kedys is a high-profile criminal case in Lithuania centering on allegations of sexual molestation of a then four-year-old Lithuanian girl and a double homicide. In November 2008, Drąsius Kedys accused Laimutė Stankūnaitė of allowing Jonas Furmanavičius and Andrius Ūsas to sexually molest their underage daughter. Frustrated by lack of progress in the investigation, Kedys took the case public. He published a video with his daughter's testimony, sent out DVDs to politicians, and appeared in the media. Still no case was brought before trial. In October 2009, Jonas Furmanavičius, a district judge and accused pedophile, and Violeta Naruševičienė, aunt of his daughter and accused procurer, were found dead and Kedys became the main murder suspect. While Kedys went into hiding, some of the Lithuanian public sided with him, portraying Kedys as a desperate father trying to protect his daughter against pedophiles. In April 2010 his body was found near Kaunas Reservoir. His death was ruled an accident – choking on vomit after heavy drinking. The main suspect in the pedophilia case, Andrius Ūsas, was found drowned in a lake after a motorcycle accident in June 2010. In a posthumous trial Ūsas was found innocent. A separate court ruling restored the girl's custody to Stankūnaitė. Some Lithuanians disagreed with the ruling and began a vigil at the house of Kedys' relatives in Garliava, where the girl lived at the time. Officials were able to take custody of the girl with the help of riot police in May 2012. The Way of Courage, a political party founded by Kedys' sister and supporters, participated in the 2012 Lithuanian parliamentary election and received almost 8% of the votes.

Owl Mountain is a 2017 Lithuanian historical drama feature film directed by Audrius Juzėnas. The film portrays political and historical events between 1947-1953 in Lithuania, when the Lithuanian population conducted guerrilla warfare against the Soviet authorities that occupied the country in an attempt to gain independence. The Soviet authorities reacted to the Lithuanian partisans by arresting and deporting several to Siberia, whilst killing others.
