Nervous Cabaret is an American punk-cabaret band from Brooklyn, New York, which formed in 2002.

History

The singer Elyas Khan's stage creation Fragmented Devotion To You, an operetta he conceived, wrote, and scored the surrounding music for, debuted at the 2001 DUMBO Arts Festival in Brooklyn, and was the final stage in the development of his band Nervous Cabaret. [1]

The band has also performed with Amanda Palmer and Sxip Shirey at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] and Jil Is Lucky [11] at La Cigale theatre in Paris, France [12] Additionally, Nervous Cabaret performed on the same stage with Sonic Youth at Les Escales Festival in Saint-Nazaire, France. [13]

Nervous Cabaret also supported Amanda Palmer on tour at the Bijou Theater in Knoxville, Tennessee, as mentioned on p. 210 of Tara Prescott and Aaron Drucker's book Feminism in the Worlds of Neil Gaiman (Gaiman is Palmer's husband). [14]

In 2008, Nervous Cabaret was invited to perform at the Louvre museum in Paris. [15]

Dumbo is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The area used to be known as Gairville. The Dresden Dolls is the debut studio album by American dark cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls. It was recorded by Brooklyn producer Martin Bisi and released on September 26, 2003 on 8 ft. Records, the band's personal label. Upon signing with Roadrunner Records, the album was re-released on April 27, 2004. The enhanced CD included a video for "Girl Anachronism". The album artwork was also modified to mask which record sleeves had been used in the album artwork.

Shirey is a member of The Daredevil Opera Company and is a founding member of the band Luminescent Orchestrii, as well as the band Gentlemen & Assassins. He is the host and producer of Sxip's Hour of Charm, a variety show of cabaret acts.

Who Killed Amanda Palmer is the first solo studio album by American singer-songwriter Amanda Palmer. The album was largely recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, with collaborator Ben Folds and was released on Roadrunner Records. The name of the album is a reference to the series Twin Peaks, which revolves around events surrounding the death of Laura Palmer.

8in8 is a supergroup comprising Ben Folds, Amanda Palmer, Neil Gaiman, and Damian Kulash of OK Go. In 2011 they gathered together with the intention of writing and recording eight songs in eight hours, hence the name "8in8". Aside from being friends, members of the group have various connections with each other: Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer are married, and Ben Folds appeared on and produced Palmer's solo debut Who Killed Amanda Palmer. The band have been referred to as a supergroup, acknowledging that moniker by describing themselves as "tomorrow's supergroup today". The musical members of 8in8 each have different styles and the EP Nighty Night was created to reflect each one, with main lyricist Gaiman adapting to suit.

Gentlemen & Assassins was a New York-based music project, whose members were: composer and guitarist Elyas Khan of Berlin, Sxip Shirey of New York, and Brian Viglione of the Dresden Dolls. They toured in Europe, including a show at Theater Dortmund with Sonic Youth and Dresden Dolls producer Martin Bisi After releasing their first album Mother Says We're Innocent, the group disbanded in 2012.

It was crowdfunded through Patreon and recorded by Palmer in collaboration with John Congleton over the course of a month. It was supported by a 2019–2020 tour. The vinyl version of the album was released on March 29, 2019.
