The Neue Musikzeitung (new music newspaper, also written neue musikzeitung, and abbreviated as nmz) is a magazine focused on classical music.

History

The Neue Musikzeitung was first published in 1952 by Bernhard Bosse [1] and Eckart Rohlfs  [ de ], [2] titled Musikalische Jugend – jeunesses musicales. [3] From 1993, it has appeared as an independent publication of the ConBrio-Verlagsgesellschaft, Regensburg. [4] The paper was awarded the Deutscher Kritikerpreis in 1999.

It is published ten times per year. Topics are premieres of music, reports about music pedagogy, reviews of performances, festivals and new editions, comments to cultural politics and music economy, and information about people and facts of the music scene. It also provides information about jobs in music. The paper has been available online from 1997. [5]

The paper has published exclusive news about the competition Jugend musiziert, and organisations such as Landesmusikrat NRW, Deutscher Kulturrat, Bayerischer Kulturrat, the Landes-Musikakademien and the EMCY (Vereinigung der europäischen Jugend-Musikwettbewerbe).

The Hannoversche Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (HGNM) also "Gesellschaft für Neue Musik" is a publisher based in Hanover specializing in Neue Musik.

Klaus Bernbacher is a German conductor, music event manager, broadcasting manager and academic teacher. He co-founded the Tage der Neuen Musik Hannover, a festival for contemporary music, in 1958. He was manager for the broadcaster Radio Bremen from 1962. In Bremen, he was also a cultural politician, a member of the Bremische Bürgerschaft, and an honorary professor at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen.

Siegfried Pank is a German cellist and viol player. He was a member of the Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig from 1962 to 1980, and toured with the Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum. He turned to playing the viol in historically informed performance, and lectured cello and viol at the Musikhochschule Leipzig from 1984, as professor from 1988 to 2001. He was a co-founder of the International Telemann Association in 1991, serving as its president from 2012.

Leo Kestenberg was a German-Israeli pianist, music educator and cultural politician. Working for the government in Prussia from 1918, he began a large-scale reform of music education (Kestenberg-Reform) which aimed to teach music to all, beginning with small children, and including the education of their teachers. In exile in Prague, he was instrumental in forming the and administrating the first international organization for music education, which became ISME. Fleeing further to Palestine, he founded a seminary for music teachers and privately taught pianists such as Menahem Pressler and Alexis Weissenberg.

The Hans Stieber Prize is a promotional prize for composers of serious and light music, which is awarded by the fiduciary trust Hans Stieber Foundation of the Landesverband Sachsen-Anhalt Deutscher Komponistenverband based in Halle (Saale). The name giver and dedicatee is Hans Stieber (1886–1969), composer and founding director of the Staatliche Hochschule für Theater und Musik Halle.

The Deutsches Musikinformationszentrum (MIZ) is the information and documentation institution of the Deutscher Musikrat. It has set itself the task of providing information about the structures, tasks and developments of the widely ramified musical life in Germany. To this end, it provides statistics, structural data and background information and offers guidance on current funding opportunities, specialist events and further education and training courses in the field of music.

The Würth Prize of Jeunesses Musicales Germany has been awarded since 1991 to artists, ensembles or projects who implement Jeunesses Musicales Germany's (JMD) values and objectives in an exemplary manner. Together with the Würth Foundation, the JMD has been honoring individual personalities, ensembles and projects every year. The prize is presented in Künzelsau and endowed with 25,000 euros. The jury is made up of representatives from the Würth Foundation and Jeunesses Musicales Germany and is advised by the Deutscher Musikrat. The JMD is the German section of the Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI). It was founded during the Second World War to encourage encounters between young musicians.

The Prize of the Christoph and Stephan Kaske Foundation is an annual award for promotion of new music. It was founded in 1988 by Karlheinz and Christiane Kaske in memory of their sons Christoph and Stephan. The Christoph and Stephan Kaske Foundation has its legal seat in Munich. The aim is to promote young, promising interpreters and composers in the field of new music. The award is endowed with € 10,000. The selection of the winner is made by a board of trustees. The prize is awarded in a ceremony at the Künstlerhaus am Lenbachplatz.

Barbara Koerppen is a German violinist. She worked as professor at the Hochschule für Musik Hannover and founded a youth symphony orchestra, playing as its concertmaster.
