The Neutral Internet Exchange (abbreviated as NL-ix, with the last two letters typeset in lowercase) is an Internet exchange in Europe, which is distributed across seventy-four data centres in thirty-one European cities in 13 countries by year-end 2015. [2] The exchange was founded in 2002 to serve as an alternative to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange. [3] As of May 26, 2015, the daily average inbound traffic is 619.48 Gbit/s and the daily average outbound traffic 616.77 Gbit/s [4] and 513 members are connected on 1762 ports. [5] On March 4, 2011, it was announced that Dutch landline and mobile telecommunications company KPN had purchased and, subsequently, acquired the exchange. [6]

DE-CIX Internet exchange point in Germany

DE-CIX is a carrier- and data-center-neutral internet exchange point (IXP) situated in Frankfurt, Germany. It is the single largest exchange point worldwide in terms of average traffic throughput of 6.9 Tbit/s in April 2021. In addition to DE-CIX in Frankfurt, DE-CIX operates internet exchange points in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Munich (ALP-IX), New York City, Dallas, Dubai (UAE-IX), Palermo, Marseille, Istanbul, and Mumbai.

The Internet in Africa is limited by a lower penetration rate when compared to the rest of the world. Measurable parameters such as the number of ISP subscriptions, overall number of hosts, IXP-traffic, and overall available bandwidth all indicate that Africa is far behind the "digital divide". Moreover, Africa itself exhibits an inner digital divide, with most Internet activity and infrastructure concentrated in South Africa, Morocco, Egypt as well as smaller economies like Mauritius and Seychelles.

Seattle Internet Exchange

The Seattle Internet Exchange (SIX) is an Internet exchange point in Seattle, USA. Its switch fabric is centered at the Westin Building and extended to KOMO Plaza, Sabey Intergate, and other locations. The SIX is one of the most successful examples of neutral and independent peering points, created as a free exchange point originally sponsored only by donations. The SIX is the most frequently cited model upon which other neutral Internet exchanges are based, and its financial and governance models are often cited as inspiration for other exchanges. It continues to run without any recurring charges to the participants and current major funding comes from one-time 10 and 100 Gbit/s port fees. The SIX is a 501(c)(6) tax-exempt non-profit corporation.

The Belgian National Internet eXchange (BNIX) is an internet exchange point operated by the Belgian national research network BELNET. Created in 1995, it is one of the charter members of Euro-IX, the European Internet Exchange Association.

Interxion is a European provider of carrier and cloud-neutral colocation data centre services. Founded in 1998 in the Netherlands, the firm was publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange from 28 January 2011 until its acquisition by Digital Realty in March 2020. UAE-IX is a carrier- and data center-neutral internet exchange point (IXP) situated in Dubai (UAE). It interconnects global networks, network operators and content providers in the GCC region. Founded in 2012, UAE-IX is built on a fully redundant switching platform located in two data centers in Dubai, Datamena and Equinix. Initiated by the UAE’s Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) and fully managed by DE-CIX, UAE-IX delivers a local alternative for regional traffic exchange, localizing Internet content.

Luxembourg Commercial Internet eXchange (LU-CIX)

The Luxembourg Internet eXchange is a carrier and neutral internet exchange point (IX) located in Luxembourg.

Detroit Internet Exchange ("DET-iX") is a Nonprofit 501(c)(6) Internet exchange point (IXP) located in Southfield, Michigan. It was founded in 2014 to help establish peering for local and regional Internet service providers. DET-iX currently has 61 members, with a maximum peak transfer speed of 454.4 Gbit/s. DET-iX is the first peering exchange of its kind in the Detroit area.

CHN-IX is an internet exchange point based in mainland China. Established in 2016, CHN-IX is a non-profit, neutral and independent peering point. CHN-IX is the first professional Internet Exchange in China.

DATAIX

DATAIX is an Internet exchange network between telecom operators and content generators in Russia, Europe and Asia. According to the Internet Exchange Report by Hurricane Electric Internet Services, DATAIX is one of the largest networks in the world by the number of participant. Its peak traffic, the size of which exceeds 4.1 Tbit/s. The headquarters of the company is located in St. Petersburg.

The Internet Exchange Point Of Nigeria (IXPN) is a neutral and not-for-profit Internet exchange point (IXP) founded in 2006 by the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) in partnership with the Internet Service Providers Association Of Nigeria (ISPAN). Among other things, IXPN was created to reduce connectivity costs in millions of dollars in offshore internet bandwidth payments, reduce latency from 900 milliseconds to 30 milliseconds for local content, serve as the central point for connecting Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) towards the development of National Research and Educational Network (NREN). As at April 2020, IXPN is the 5th largest IXP in Africa by number of peers, and 3rd in Africa by traffic according to Packet Clearing House’s IXP directory
