Newark and Sherwood Concert Band (NSCB) is a community concert band (also known as a wind band) in Nottinghamshire and regularly performs throughout the county and beyond, and in 2019 playing in Emmendingen, Germany. Newark and Sherwood Concert Band has its home in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands. It is independent. The band draws on a diversity of musical styles, from classical transcriptions to contemporary compositions and from film and show compilations to big band favourites. It has in excess of 50 regular members.
Established in 1997 by Caroline Noble as Newark and Sherwood Concert Band. It started as the Newark and Sherwood College and Community Orchestra, but disbanded after a short period of time. Noble changed the format to a concert/wind band and it has grown since then having approximately 60 members, performing around the UK and abroad.
In 2009 the band was awarded a grant by the Lottery funded 'Awards for All' programme, which enabled it to buy a comprehensive range of percussion instruments and other items of equipment.
Since January 2013 the band has been led by Conductor and Musical Director Colum J O'Shea.
In 2019, NSCB was awarded a Platinum Award at the National Concert Band Festival.
Robert Jenrick, the Member of Parliament for Newark-on-Trent was President of the band between June 2014 and June 2016. The current president is Mrs Rita Crowe, who was Mayor of Newark 2017-2018.
Tony Marriott (and until his death Geoffrey Foulds) were patrons of the Band after October 2014.

Band membership stands currently at over 50 musicians, who come from across Nottinghamshire and adjacent counties. They range in age from 8 to 80-plus.

Newark-on-Trent or Newark is a market town and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district in Nottinghamshire, England. It is on the River Trent, and was historically a major inland port. The A1 road bypasses the town on the line of the ancient Great North Road. The town's origins are likely to be Roman, as it lies on a major Roman road, the Fosse Way. It grew up round Newark Castle, now ruined, as a centre for the wool and cloth trades. In the English Civil War, it was besieged by Parliamentary forces and relieved by Royalist forces under Prince Rupert. Newark has a market place lined with many historical buildings and one of its most notable landmark is St Mary Magdalene church with its towering spire at 232 feet high and the highest structure in the town. The church is the tallest church in Nottinghamshire and can be seen when entering Newark or bypassing it.

Averham is a village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 187, increasing to 294 at the 2011 census. The village is just west of Newark-on-Trent. Staythorpe Power Station is south-west of the village.

The American Bandmasters Association (ABA) was formed in 1929 by Edwin Franko Goldman to promote concert band music. Goldman sought to raise esteem for concert bands among musicians and audiences. The reputations of concert bands suffered in comparison to symphony orchestras due to factors including "the concert band’s concert venue, often out-of-doors, the difficulty of conductors to obtain a quality music education, a limited repertoire that with the exception of marches was largely borrowed from the libraries of the orchestra, and a lack of camaraderie among the leading bandmasters/conductors of the period."

The Mandolin Society of Peterborough (MSOP) is a non-profit community mandolin orchestra based in the City of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. The MSOP is one of three such groups in Ontario, and the only one composed completely of mandolinists. In 2016 members of the Society include both professional and amateur players, and founder Curtis Driedger continues to act as conductor and manager. The orchestra performs musical pieces from a variety of genres; most of the arrangements are created by members of the Society, and the repertoire includes a number of original pieces written by the members as well.
Newark and Sherwood United F.C. is a football club that represents the town of Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire but were based in Balderton. They are currently members of the United Counties League Premier Division North and are ground sharing with Collingham at Station Road following their Lowfields ground being sold to a property developer.
