Newport is a village in Alkington parish, Gloucestershire, England. Located along the A38 road roughly halfway between Bristol and Gloucester. It is located about a mile south-east of Berkeley and just north of Woodford. It is on the Doverte Brook, a tributary of the Little Avon River. Its pub ('The Stagecoach'), formerly the White Hart, closed in 2021 and is now a Day Nursery. A closed down motel ('The Newport Towers') is being redeveloped as a housing estate, and there is a small non-conformist chapel. The chapel is closed on October 2006 and has been converted into a house. It had a Georgian Interior with hat pegs and galleries and several broken harmoniums. Prior to the advent of the motor car, the journey between Bristol and Gloucestershire took a whole day. It was a perfect staging point for stagecoaches at that time. There were many inns, some catering for the post. The coaches would have a change of horses, the coachmen and passengers having a mid-journey rest stop.
The A403 is a main road linking Bristol with the Severn Estuary. It runs from junction 1 of the M48 at Aust to the docks at Avonmouth. After the Severn Bridge was opened in 1966, the A403 was constructed in 1969 and 1970 to provide a direct route between the M4 motorway and Avonmouth. It is an important route for the local industries, allowing easy access between Wales and this part of England. It was financed by Gloucestershire County Council with a £387,000 grant from the Ministry of Transport and was initially known as the Avonmouth Aust Coast Road.
Ashchurch for Tewkesbury is a railway station serving the medieval market town of Tewkesbury and village of Ashchurch in Gloucestershire, England. The station is located less than 1⁄4 mile (400 m) from junction 9 of the M5 motorway and located on the main Bristol–Birmingham main line 7+1⁄4 miles (11.7 km) north of Cheltenham Spa and was opened on 1 June 1997 by Railtrack. There are regular bus connections from the station to Tewkesbury town centre, Gloucester Transport Hub and Cheltenham
