Moe's Newport Restaurant is a Lebanese restaurant and pizzeria located at the intersection of Churchill and Scott in the Westboro neighborhood of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It had previously been located at Richmond and Churchill in Westboro. Moe's also operates a kiosk and patio at Westboro Beach.
Moe's was founded by Moe Atallah, a Lebanese restaurateur who was forced to leave his family's restaurant and flee Lebanon in 1976 following the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War. He worked at various restaurants, including a Greek restaurant on Rideau Street and the Colonnade Pizzeria on Metcalfe Street, before purchasing the Newport Restaurant, then a diner, in 1988. Atallah now owns several other restaurants in the National Capital Region.[ citation needed ]
Heather Crowe, a Canadian anti-smoking activist, was diagnosed with lung cancer after being exposed to secondhand smoke while working as a waitress at Moe's and other restaurants (at the time smoking was mostly permitted indoors). Crowe began her activism after one Moe's patron, a Health Canada director, helped her campaign against secondhand smoke. Atallah also appeared in public service announcements directed to restaurant owners warning about the dangers of secondhand smoke. Smoking has been banned at Moe's since Crowe's diagnosis.[ citation needed ]
Moe's is known for holding fundraisers for local charities, as well as its Christmas celebrations, during which the restaurant offers free breakfast, lunch, and donated gifts to those in need.[ citation needed ]
Attalah and Earl McRae founded the Elvis Sighting Society, a philanthropic organization that often holds events at Moe's; the restaurant is also decorated with Elvis Presley memorabilia. The small lane behind the original restaurant at Richmond and Churchill has since been officially dubbed "Elvis Lives Lane" by Ottawa City Council.[ citation needed ]
A cigarette is a narrow cylinder containing a combustible material, typically tobacco, that is rolled into thin paper for smoking. The cigarette is ignited at one end, causing it to smolder; the resulting smoke is orally inhaled via the opposite end. Cigarette smoking is the most common method of tobacco consumption. The term cigarette, as commonly used, refers to a tobacco cigarette, but the word is sometimes used to refer to other substances, such as a cannabis cigarette or a herbal cigarette. A cigarette is distinguished from a cigar by its usually smaller size, use of processed leaf, different smoking method, and paper wrapping, which is typically white.
A hookah, shisha, or waterpipe is a single- or multi-stemmed instrument for heating or vaporizing and then smoking either tobacco, flavored tobacco, or sometimes cannabis, hashish and opium. The smoke is passed through a water basin—often glass-based—before inhalation.
Smoking bans, or smoke-free laws, are public policies, including criminal laws and occupational safety and health regulations, that prohibit tobacco smoking in certain spaces. The spaces most commonly affected by smoking bans are indoor workplaces and buildings open to the public such as restaurants, bars, office buildings, schools, retail stores, hospitals, libraries, transport facilities, and government buildings, in addition to public transport vehicles such as aircraft, buses, watercraft, and trains. However, laws may also prohibit smoking in outdoor areas such as parks, beaches, pedestrian plazas, college and hospital campuses, and within a certain distance from the entrance to a building, and in some cases, private vehicles and multi-unit residences.
Westboro is an area in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Located along the Ottawa River, Island Park Drive defines Westboro's eastern border, while the Ottawa River defines its northern border. Under this definition, the population of the area is 22,725.
Passive smoking is the inhalation of tobacco smoke, called passive smoke, secondhand smoke (SHS) or environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), by individuals other than the active smoker. It occurs when tobacco smoke diffuses into the surrounding atmosphere as an aerosol pollutant, which leads to its inhalation by nearby bystanders within the same environment. Exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke causes many of the same health effects caused by active smoking, although to a lower prevalence due to the reduced concentration of smoke that enters the airway.
The C.D. Howe Building is an office tower in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, that is the home of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, the Office of the Auditor General and other smaller tenants. It was built by Olympia and York. The federal government sold the land to O&Y for a dollar and signed an agreement to lease the final building for a set rate until 2012. The eleven-story building was opened in 1978. The building site was once The Embassy Restaurant from 1953 to 1974.
Greely is a suburban-rural community in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Located south of the city in Osgoode Ward, it was part of the Township of Osgoode prior to amalgamation in 2001. Greely is currently the largest rural village in terms of land area and the third largest in terms of population in the City of Ottawa. According to the Greely Community Association, it is bounded on the east by Sale Barn Road and Greyscreek Road, on the north by Mitch Owens on the west by Manotick Station Road, and on the south by Snake Island Road. According to the Canada 2011 Census, the population within these boundaries was 9,049.
Stittsville is a suburban community, part of the Canadian capital of Ottawa, Ontario. It is within the former Goulbourn Township. A part of the National Capital Region, Stittsville is immediately to the southwest of Kanata, adjacent to Richmond and about 20 km (12 mi) west of Downtown Ottawa. The urban part of the community corresponds to Stittsville Ward on Ottawa City Council and has been represented by Glen Gower since 2018. As of 2021, Stittsville ward had a population of 40,889.

The Smoke-Free Illinois Act is a comprehensive anti-smoking law that took effect in Illinois on January 1, 2008. It bans smoking inside most buildings and vehicles used by the general public, used as a place of employment, or owned by the government or another public body. It also requires "no smoking" signs, bans smoking within 15 feet (4.6 m) of openings in the targeted buildings, and requires at least 75% of rooms in each hotel to be non-smoking. The act replaced the previous Illinois Clean Indoor Air Act.

Advocates call for measures to reduce the smoking rates and address smoking inequalities using a combination of monitoring and tobacco control policies. These measures include significant price hikes, mandatory warning photos on cigarette packs, advertising bans, financial incentives, medical help for quitting, and complete smoking bans in public places.
Britannia United Church is a United Church of Canada congregation in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. One of Ottawa's oldest congregations, members had been meeting in homes since 1869. The Britannia Heights Methodist Church formed in 1873. It joined the United Church when it was formed in 1925. In 1925, Britannia became officially Britannia United Church. The Britannia United Church has operated out of Pinecrest Road location since 1961.
