Nicolas Keppens is an Oscar-nominated film director and artist born in Aalst, Belgium. [1] He is mostly known for his Oscars-shortlisted film Beautiful Men (2023) [2] [3] and his award-winning short Easter Eggs (2021), an animated short film about finding extraordinary things in ordinary places. Career

Keppens first studied animation at KASK School of Arts in Ghent, graduating in 2012. He then obtained a film degree at the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels. [6] After his studies, Keppens first worked as a cleanup and in-between animator at Lunanime for Phantom Boy . From 2015 to 2021, he worked as production manager for the Hans Op de Beeck contemporary art studio. [6] Since 2021, Keppens has been an animation lecturer at the KASK School of Arts. [7]

Keppens' short films have received multiple awards at international film festivals, including the Award for Best Narrative Film at the 2024 Ottawa International Animation Festival [14] , the Best Belgian Short Film Award at the 2024 Anima Brussels Animation Festival [15] and the Alexeïeff - Parker Award at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival for the short film Beautiful Men (2023). [16]

With his short Easter Eggs (2021), Keppens won the Grand Prix at the 2021 Cinanima Festival [17] and the Jury Award at the 2021 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. [18]

His short film Wildebeest (2018), which he co-wrote and co-directed with Matthias Phlips, won the Best Film Award at the 2018 Fantoche International Animation Film Festival and was nominated for a European Film Award. [4]

On January 23rd, 2025, Keppens received his first Academy Award nomination with the film Beautiful Men (2023). [1]

In 2016, Stick Man was awarded the Cristal for best TV production at the Annecy International Animation Festival. Alê Abreu is a Brazilian film director, screenwriter, character animator, film editor and producer. Sírius, his first short film, debuted at the 1993 Anima Mundi as the only Brazilian animation that year. It won the Best Film Award at the Festival de Cine para Niños y Jovenes and was also screened at the Mostra Internacional de Cinema São Paulo and at the section Animation for Children of the Hiroshima International Animation Festival. His second short film, Espantalho, released in 1998, won the 3rd Best Brazilian Animation at the Anima Mundi, the Best Art Direction Award at the Brazilian Film Festival of Miami, and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 1st Grande Prêmio Cinema Brasil. TVPaint Animation is a 2D paint and digital animation software package developed by TVPaint Developpement SARL based in Lorraine, France. Originally released for Amiga in 1991, version 3.0 (1994) introduced support for other platforms. In 1999, the last Amiga version 3.59 was released as free download. TVPaint Animation currently runs on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Android operating systems.

Wild Summon is a 2023 animated short film directed by the filmmaking duo Karni Arieli and Saul Freed, also known as 'Karni & Saul'. The 14-minute eco-film narrated by British singer Marianne Faithfull depicts the life of a female salmon, in the human form of a free diver. Premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film, Wild Summon has been featured in a number of international film festivals, including the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the Raindance Film Festival, where it won an award for Best Short Film. In January 2024, filmmakers Adam McKay, Kevin Messick, Guy Nattiv and Jaime Ray Newman came aboard as executive producers of the film.

A Bear Named Wojtek is a 2023 Scottish-Polish animated short film directed by Iain Gardner. The 28-minute animated film about the true story of Wojtek, the war bear, has been selected in various international film festivals, including the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the Manchester Animation Film Festival. It also won a British Animation Award for Best Long Form Animation as well as a Venice TV Award for Best Animation. The film was first broadcast on BBC Alba on the 8th May 2024. It was shortlisted for the Best Animated Short Film category at the 97th Academy Awards.
