The cinema of the Philippines began with the introduction of the first moving pictures to the country on August 31, 1897 at the Salón de Pertierra in Manila. The following year, local scenes were shot on film for the first time by a Spaniard, Antonio Ramos, using the Lumiere Cinematograph. Ambulante Documentary Film Festival or Ambulante is an annual international documentary film festival organized by the Mexican non-profit organization Documental Ambulante A.C. The first edition of the festival was held in 2006. The festival tours Mexico for two months, screening documentaries in over 130 venues. In 2014 and 2015, Ambulante held Ambulante California, a version of the festival in the United States.
