The Nigeria Prize for Science is a Nigerian science award given annually since 2004 for excellence in science breakthroughs. It is the country's highest scientific award. [1] The award is sponsored by Nigeria LNG Limited. [1] The prize describes itself as "bringing Nigerian scientists to public attention and celebrating excellence in scientific breakthroughs". [1]

Contents

History

The Prize was initially $20,000 each in Literature and Science. This was increased to $30,000 in 2006, and again to $50,000 in 2008. In 2011 the prize was increased to $100,000. [2]

On Black Sisters Street is a 2011 translated novel by Nigerian author Chika Unigwe. It is her second novel, which was originally published as Fata Morgana, in Dutch in 2008 and subsequently released in English as On Black Sisters' Street. On Black Sisters' Street is about African prostitutes living and working in Belgium. On Black Sisters' Street won the 2012 Nigeria Prize for Literature; valued at $100,000 it is Africa's largest literary prize.

Meihong Wang is an academic, born in Dongtai City, Jiangsu Province in China. He is a professor on Process Systems Engineering (PSE) at the University of Sheffield. His researches are on power plants, carbon capture utilisation and storage, energy storage and bio-energy through modelling, optimization and control.

The 2024 Nigeria Prize for Literature is a national literary prize sponsored by the Nigeria LNG that will be awarded in October 2024.
