Night Light Interactive, LLC is an American video game company founded in 2012 and based in North Hills, California that has developed the video game Whispering Willows .

History

Night Light Interactive was co-founded by David Logan and Michael Bellavia in 2012. [1] The studio's first game, Whispering Willows, was entered in the 2013 OUYA Create Game Jam, where it won “Most Immersive” and first received major attention. [2] The success led to the company creating a successful Kickstarter and getting the game released on Steam through Steam Greenlight. [3] [4] Night Light Interactive was converted into the Limited Liability Corporation 'Night Light Interactive, LLC' on April 12, 2012. [5] then received funding from OUYA's "Free the Game Fund." [6] In 2014 Night Light brought on two official advisers, Kellee Santiago, formerly of Thatgamecompany and Terry Redfield, of Wicked Fun. [7] In 2015 Leif Dahl became a company partner through working on Whispering Willows. [8]

Whispering Willows

Whispering Willows is a horror-themed adventure game. Assuming the role of Elena Elkhorn, a child looking for her missing father, the player progresses by using astral projection to communicate with spirits and explore the environment. The game won multiple awards including "Best Story" at Casual Connect Indie Prize; First Place at Seattle Indie Gaming Competition; Winner 2013 for “Most Immersive,” Finalist for “Grand Prize” and “Best Visuals” at OUYA CREATE Game Jam; Finalist in Captivate Conference Game Design Competition 2013, and Winner of the Cerebral Indie Developer Grant in 2013. GameStick microconsole

The GameStick is a home video game console developed by PlayJam. It is a microconsole the size of a USB flash drive that plugs directly into the back of a TV through an HDMI port and ships with its own Bluetooth controller. Users can download content from a curated storefront via Wi-Fi, with content stored locally for offline access. The device is powered by the PlayJam Games Platform and runs its own version of the Android operating system. It is portable and aimed at casual to mid-core gamers. Like the Ouya, it was funded through Kickstarter.

Anodyne is an action-adventure developed by Analgesic Productions. After a nearly year-long development through Han Tani and Kittaka's last years in college the game was released on February 4, 2013, for Windows PC, Mac OS X and Linux. An Android version was released as part of a Humble Bundle on October 15, 2013. The Nintendo Switch version was released on February 28, 2019. The Anodyne soundtrack was also made available for purchase at the time of release, including all of the music in the game as well as a few bonus tracks.

That Dragon, Cancer is a video game created by Ryan and Amy Green, Josh Larson, and a small team under the name Numinous Games. The autobiographical game is based on the Greens' experience of raising their son Joel, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer at twelve months old, and though only given a short time to live, continued to survive for four more years before eventually succumbing to the cancer in March 2014. The game is designed to have the player experience the low and high moments of this period in the style of a point-and-click adventure game, using the medium's interactivity and immersion to relate the tale in ways that a film cannot. It was initially developed to relate Ryan and Amy's personal experience with Joel when they were uncertain of his health, but following his death, they reworked much of the game to memorialize and personalize their time and interactions with Joel for the player. Alongside the game, a documentary, Thank You for Playing, documenting both the last few years of Joel's life and the development of the game, was aired in 2016.

Whispering Willows is an indie adventure horror video game developed by the independent developer Night Light Interactive. It was released on Ouya on May 27, 2014, and subsequently released for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and OS X on Steam on July 9, 2014 and on Nintendo Switch on September 27, 2018. The game was translated into Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Polish, Chinese, Ukrainian and Brazilian Portuguese. The soundtrack by Steve Goldshein was released on January 9, 2018 by video game music label Materia Collective.

The game has he player take on the role of Rita, a barista stuck on a desert island after a plane crash. Along with five others, Rita has to lead the group to survive. The game was funded by a Kickstarter campaign, raising over $40,000 from 1,816 backers.
