Nikolaj Hess is a Danish jazz pianist, [1] composer, producer and arranger.
Hess won the gold prize in the Berlingske Tidendes competition of non-classical music in Copenhagen and won the category for best European jazz piano player under 25, in the RAI competition in Rome (1991). Having graduated from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory at 22, he was the first to get the top grade for his concert performance in piano, his main subject.
Hess has composed and arranged for solo pianists, small groups, large string ensemble, big band, choirs and saxophone quartets. He has also written music for the Danish film company Zentropa for Lars Von Trier's Melancholia (2011), [2] Tju Bang Film and the German Meeres Stille (2013) [3] as well as for radio (DR, NKR, Hungarian Radio), Den Kongelige Ballet, Det Kongelige Teater, dance companies, and installations in collaborations with visual artists.

Hess has been awarded many grants from the Danish government, as well as from private foundations, which has twice included the Bikuben Foundation artist-in-residence in New York. He was nominated for best jazz album of the year at the Danish Music Awards in 2013 and 2014. [7]
Hess is associate professor at the Rhythmic Conservatory in Copenhagen as well as the Art Director of Summersession, an educational program for professional musicians organized by JazzDanmark. [8]
Heshas also taught at New School University in New York, The Royal Danish Conservatory of Music, Conservatoire National Superieur de Music de Paris, Funda College, South Africa; Shuttle 2002 South Africa; IASJ 10th annual congress in Köln, and Conservatory of Non classical Music in Århus, and William Paterson University New Jersey.

Marilyn Mazur is an American-born Danish percussionist. Since 1975, she has worked as a percussionist with various groups, among them Six Winds with Alex Riel. Mazur is primarily an autodidact, but she has a degree in percussion from the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Danish jazz dates back to 1923 when Valdemar Eiberg formed a jazz orchestra and recorded what are thought to be the first Danish jazz records in August 1924. However, jazz in Denmark is typically first dated to 1925, when bandleader Sam Wooding toured in Copenhagen with an orchestra. This was the first time most Danes had heard jazz music. The Reumert Award is an annual Danish awards ceremony to recognize excellence in theatre achievements in Denmark. The award was founded by the Bikuben Foundation in 1998, and has been handed annually since then. There are 16 award categories as well as 10 talent awards. A jury of ten specialists in theatre selects the recipients, who receive a statuette and a prize. As of 2016, the recipients also receive an amount of money. The recipients of the Reumert Award of Honour receive DKK 200,000, the recipients of the Talent Prize receive DKK 35,000 and all other categories-recipients receive DKK 40,000. The Reumert prize is named after the Danish actor Poul Reumert (1883–1968).

Agnete Bjørneboe née Bayer is a Tanzanian-born Danish artist and educator whose work covers painting, collage, mosaic and papercutting.
