Nimo Owelle, also known as Nimo, is a large town in southeastern Nigeria. As of 2021, the traditional ruler of Nimo is Igwe Max Ike Oliobi. [1]

Location

Nimo is located in the local government area of Njikoka in Anambra State. Nimo's postal code is 421102. [2] Its neighbouring towns are Enugwu Ukwu, Abagana, Neni, Eziowelle, Abatete, Oraukwu, Adazi, Nri, and Abacha.

History

Igbo historical tradition states that Owelle had four sons, whom he begot at his residence in Owe. Their names were Nimo Owelle, Abagana, Abba, and Eziowelle. Nimo Owelle had two wives. The first wife bore Okpaladinwe and Ojideleke; the second wife bore Ezenebo and Okpalabani. Okpaladinwe and Ojideleke begot Etiti Nimo and Egbengwu, respectively. Ezenebo and Okpalabani begot Ifiteani and Ifite-enu, respectively. The tradition states that these four grandsons of Nimo Owelle (Etiti Nimo, Egbengwu, Ifiteani, Ifite-enu) and their descendants occupy what is known today as Nimo. [3] [4]

Composition

Nimo is made up of four quarters (or clans) and their constituent villages. The four quarters are Etiti Nimo, Egbengwu, Ifiteani, and Ifite-enu. As of 2022, there are 45 villages in Nimo. [3]

Every adult in Nimo is eligible to join the Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU), formerly known as the Nimo Brotherhood Society (NBS). [3] [4] NTDU is led by a President General (PG). The current PG is Chief Agbalanze Ekenenna Okafor. [5] He replaced the late Chief Frank Igboka, [6] a former Chairman of Njikoka local government.

Kingship and tradition

The traditional ruler of Nimo is known by the title "Owelle of Nimo". He chairs the royal cabinet made up of the "Onowu of Nimo”, other titled individuals, and Ndi Ichie representing the various villages of Nimo. [3] [4] [7]

Notable places of tradition in Nimo include Oye Nimo (the central market) and Egwegwe (the town square).

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, also called UNIZIK or NAU in short is a federal university in Nigeria. It consists of two campuses in Anambra State. Its main campus is in Awka, while its other campus is in Nnewi. There are also other campuses of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. These include Agulu in Aniocha local government area and Ifite-Ogwuari in Ayamelum local government area in Anambra State. This makes Nnamdi Azikiwe University to operate in the three Senatorial Districts in Anambra State, Nigeria having Awka campus, in Anambra Central Senatorial District, Nnewi in Anambra North Senatorial District and Ifite-Ogwuari in Anambra North Senatorial District, respectively. These campuses have libraries and information services that serve the students, academic and non-academic staff. It is one of the federal universities which are overseen and accredited by the National Universities Commission. The university is named after late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. Abagana is a town in Nigeria. It is the headquarters of Njikoka Local Government Area Anambra State and lies approximately 20 kilometers from Onitsha along the old Enugu-Onitsha Trunk A Road that divides the town into two halves.

Christopher Uchefuna Okeke, also known as Uche Okeke, was an illustrator, painter, sculptor, and teacher. He was an art and aesthetic theorist, seminal to Nigerian modernism.

Alor is one of the seven communities comprising the Idemili South Local Government of Anambra State in the southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Its people are one of the Igbo speaking peoples of Eastern Nigeria. Abatete, like most Igbo communities, has a rich cultural heritage.

Ayamelum is a local government area (LGA) in Anambra state, in the southeastern part of Nigeria with headquarters in Anaku. Enugwu Ukwu is a large town in Anambra State, Nigeria. Enugwu-Ukwu town is geographically situated on hilly terrain; thus it is named after its geographical topography. It is predominantly occupied by the Igbo people ethnic group of Anambra State. Most of its inhabitants are Christians. It is located in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. Umunya is an Olu Town and one of the five communities that make up Oyi Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State Nigeria. It is bordered by six neighbors: Ifite-Dunu, Awkuzu, Nteje, Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Ogbunike, and Umudioka. In the south lies Umudioka and Ifite-Dunu, both in Dunukofia LGA. Emmanuel Nwude Odinigwe, popularly known as Owelle of Abagana, is a Nigerian advance-fee fraud expert artist and former Director of Union Bank of Nigeria. He is known for defrauding Nelson Sakaguchi, a Director at Brazil's Banco Noroeste based in São Paulo, of $242 million: $191 million in cash and the remainder in the form of outstanding interest, between 1995 and 1998. His accomplices were Emmanuel Ofolue, Nzeribe Okoli, and Obum Osakwe, along with the husband and wife duo, Christian Ikechukwu Anajemba and Amaka Anajemba, with Christian later being assassinated.

It has eleven public libraries, comprising three Divisional libraries with seven Branch/Community libraries and the headquarter that houses the Library Board – Professor Kenneth Dike State Central e-Library, Awka. The State Library Board has won awards for the Best Public Library in Nigeria for three consecutive years, earning it another award for the Ever Green Public Library in Nigeria

Charles Udenze Ilegbune, SAN is a Nigerian professor of law at the University of Abuja and a senior advocate of Nigeria. He is a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of University of Nigeria Nsukka where he also served as the Dean and head of department of the faculty of law. He is a member of African Bar Association, a recipient of Order of the Niger. He is also the founder and Principal Partner of Ilegbune & Ilegbune & Co. Enugu.
