Nkalagu is a town in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Nigeria. It is notable for having a large deposit of limestone which provided the raw material for the large cement plant of the Nigerian Cement Company (Nigercem). [1] Nkalagu is the first town you will enter, when you are going into Ebonyi State through Enugu-Abakaliki express road. Ebonyi State State of Nigeria

Ebonyi State is in southeastern Nigeria. It is inhabited and populated primarily by the Igbo with the city of Abakaliki as its capital and largest city. Other major townships include Afikpo, Onueke, Edda, Unwana, Echara Ikwo, Agubia, Ụbụrụ, Onicha, etc. It was one of the six states created in 1996 by the then federal military government of General Sani Abacha. The State of Ebonyi was created from parts of both Enugu State and Abia State, which were the Abakaliki division from Enugu State and the Afikpo division from Abia State respectively. It has three senatorial zones, the Abakaliki division make up Ebonyi North and Ebonyi Central senetorial zone, while the Afikpo division make up the Ebonyi South senetorial zone. Ebonyi has thirteen local government areas as well as local development centres created by the state government. It is home to six Higher institutions of learning: Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki (EBSU); Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo (FUNAI); Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana; Savannah Institute of Technology, Ishieke Junction, Abakaliki; Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu; Ebonyi State College of Education Ikwo (EBSCOEI) and College of Health Sciences, Ezzamgbo.

Origin of Nkalagu

Nkalagu was second son of Odeke who migrated from Nkanu and settled around the present Amazu Town. Odeke gave birth to Amazu Odeke and Nkalagu Odeke the second son. Nkalagu was a hunter and traveled from place to place hunting. After hunting each day he usually went home to his father's house until he found the present place called Nkalagu. He settled there and sent message to his family that he had found a fertile place and would settle there with his family and would never come home again. [3]

Evangel University, Okpoto

Evangel University, Akaeze (EUA) is a private Christian university in Ebonyi state. It is owned by the Assemblies of God Christian denomination. The university was licensed in February, 2012 and commenced academic activities on 27 November 2012 for the 2012/2013 academic session. The university began operation at its take-off campus in Okpoto with two colleges and one school. It has since been extended to four colleges while work is ongoing in view of a planned move to its permanent campus at Akaeze. Full accreditation was obtained from the National Universities Commission, NUC in 2016. The school is one of Nigeria's least expensive private universities. A 2016 survey report by Economic Confidential described Evangel University as one of the less popular destinations for students seeking admission to higher institutions.

Joseph Obinna Ogba is a Nigerian politician. He is the senator representing Ebonyi Central senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate. He is a senator of the 8th republic of the National Assembly in Nigeria and also senator-elect in the 9th republic of the National Assembly.

Benard Ifeanyi Odoh is a Nigerian politician and professor of geophysics at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He is from Ezza North Local Government Area in Ebonyi State (Nigeria). He was the Secretary to the State Government of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2018. He left his office by resignation. In 2019 he was a candidate in the gubernatorial elections in Ebonyi State on the All Progressives Congress platform but lost in the primaries to Sonni Ogbuoji.
