The Hamburger Schule is a music movement current in Germany during the 1980s and early 1990s. With some active bands and artists it is still present. It took up traditions of Neue Deutsche Welle and combined them with elements of indie rock, punk, grunge, experimental pop, and intellectual lyrics. It established new grounds for the use of German language in pop music.

The Kills are an Anglo-American indie rock band formed by American vocalist Alison "VV" Mosshart and British guitarist Jamie "Hotel" Hince. Since 2002, The Kills have released five studio albums, four extended plays, nineteen singles, sixteen music videos, a documentary, and have contributed original material to two compilations. The Kills debuted in 2002 with the Black Rooster EP, released on Domino Records. The duo's debut full-length album, Keep on Your Mean Side, was released the following year. The album peaked at number 47 on the United Kingdom Albums Chart, while the single "Fried my Little Brains" peaked at number 55 on the UK Singles Chart. The Kills followed up with No Wow in 2005 and Midnight Boom in 2008, both of which were also released on Domino. No Wow was the first of the group's releases to chart in the United States, peaking at number 18 on the Billboard "Top Heatseekers" chart. No Wow also charted in the UK, Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. The group's third album, Midnight Boom charted in a total of nine countries, including the album's first appearance on the Billboard 200 at number 133. Between The Kills' 16 singles, five have charted in the United Kingdom. A tour documentary titled I Hate the Way You Love was included with a limited number of copies of No Wow.

The band's previous album, This Godless Endeavor, was released in 2005, making the five-year gap the longest between two consecutive Nevermore albums.

Into the Great Wide Yonder is the second studio album by Danish electronic musician Trentemøller. It was released physically on May 28, 2010 in Germany, and worldwide on May 31 as digital download. The album's lead single, "Sycamore Feeling," which features vocals by Danish singer Marie Fisker, was released digitally on March 22, 2010. The Special Edition includes a DVD with the music video of "Sycamore Feeling" and a live video of "Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!!" performed at Roskilde Festival in 2009, both recorded in high-definition.
TY.O is the third studio album by British record producer and recording artist Taio Cruz which features special guest appearances from Flo Rida, Pitbull, David Guetta and Ludacris. Taking a more electronic music sound than his previous releases, TY.O was released in December 2011 by Universal Island Records but for reasons unknown to Cruz, its British and American release were held off. Instead, a year after its original release, an extended play (EP) version of the album titled The Fast Hits was released in the UK on 16 December 2012.
Out of My Hands is the fifth studio album and third English-language album by Norwegian pop singer Morten Harket. It was released on April 13, 2012 through Island Records. The album was mainly produced by British record producer Steve Osborne, who worked with a-ha on their ninth studio album, Foot of the Mountain (2009). Upon its release, the album received generally mixed reviews from Norwegian music critics. The album charted at number one in Norway, becoming the singer's third number-one album there.

Thees Uhlmann is the eponymous debut record for former Tomte frontman Thees Uhlmann released through Uhlmann's own Grand Hotel van Cleef label on August 26, 2011. The record was commercially well-received, charting within the Top 5 in Germany and the Top 20 in Austria. The album did not chart in Switzerland. The album consists mostly of sentimental narratives composed on an acoustic guitar. The music was influenced by American rock-singer Bruce Springsteen. German rapper Casper features on & Jay-Z singt uns ein Lied and received credit for writing his own verse. Otherwise, all lyrics, which were written by Uhlmann, describe a search for stability and a place to call home. After the album's release, Uhlmann, a native of Hemmoor, left Berlin and moved back to a more rural environment. This frustration is highlighted throughout the record.
"Zum Laichen und Sterben ziehen die Lachse den Fluss hinauf" (eng: To Mate and Die the Salmons Swim Upstream) is the debut single from German singer-songwriter Thees Uhlmann released in the summer of 2011. After Uhlmann's band Tomte went on hiatus, Uhlmann began work on material, working with Tobias Kuhn on what would become his eponymous solo album.
Rob Lynch is an English educator and singer-songwriter, formerly known as Lost On Campus. He released three EPs under that name before reverting to his birth name and releasing the EP Rob Lynch on 3 October 2011, followed by No Blood on 21 December 2012. His debut album, All These Nights in Bars Will Somehow Save My Soul, was released on 22 September 2014 through Xtra Mile Recordings.
Band Aid 30 is the 2014 incarnation of the charity supergroup Band Aid. The group was announced on 10 November 2014 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, with Geldof stating that he took the step after the United Nations had contacted him, saying help was urgently needed to prevent the 2014 Ebola crisis in Western Africa spreading throughout the world. As in previous incarnations, the group covered the track "Do They Know It's Christmas?", written in 1984 by Geldof and Ure, this time to raise money towards the Ebola crisis in Western Africa. The track re-tweaked lyrics to reflect the Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa, and all proceeds went towards battling what Geldof described as a "particularly pernicious illness because it renders humans untouchable and that is sickening".
