There have been a total of 42 reigns shared between 23 different champions. The current champion is Jake Lee, who is in his first reign.

It was created in 2001 when Yoshinobu Kanemaru defeated Juventud Guerrera in a 12-man tournament final. In addition to Japan, the title has also been defended in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany. As of November 10, 2022, there have been a total of 53 reigns shared between 26 different champions. The current champion is Hayata, who is in his fifth reign.

Although the weight limit is, The Briscoe Brothers won the titles weighing slightly more than this on January 7, 2007.
