The Norfolk Championships also known as the Norfolk County Lawn Tennis Championships was a combined men's and women's grass court tournament originally founded in 1906. [1] It was held in multiple locations such as Norwich, Great Yarmouth, and Cromer, England until 1971.

History

The Norfolk County Lawn Tennis Championships were established in 1906. [2] The tournament was staged continuously until 1915 just after the start of World War I. The tournament resumed in 1919 that was staged by the Cromer Lawn Tennis Club, [3] until 1939 when it ceased for seven years until after World War II. It resumed in 1947 and continued for another 24 years until 1971 when it was abolished. [2]

Previous winners of the men's singles title included; Nigel Sharpe and Tony Pickard. [4] Previous winners of the women's singles championship included; Hilda Lane, Ethel Thomson Larcombe, Dorothy Kemmis-Betty Evelyn Attwood and Anne Haydon. [4]

The Northumberland Championships or Northumberland Lawn Tennis Championships or Northumberland County Championships and later known as the ESAB Northumberland Open for sponsorship reasons was a men's and women's open grass court tennis tournament held first held at the South Northumberland Cricket Ground and various other venues until 1923. It was then staged at the Brandling Lawn Tennis Club (1924–1974), the Northumberland Club (1974–1983), Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, Great Britain. The tournament ran from 1882 to 1983.

The Middlesex Championships or Middlesex Lawn Tennis Championships and also known as the Middlesex Open Tennis Championships was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament held at the Chiswick Park Lawn Tennis Club,Chiswick Park, Chiswick, Middlesex, Great Britain from 1884 to 1949.

The tournament ran as part of the worldwide circuit until 1981 when it was branded as the Mobil 1 Tournament for sponsorship reasons.

The Cromer Covered Courts Championships or formally the Cromer Covered Courts Tournament or simply the Cromer Covered Courts was an open men's and women's international indoor Clay tennis tournament founded in 1925. The tournament featured two editions of the event, one was held in the autumn known, and was known as the Cromer Covered Courts Autumn Meeting and the other in the spring. The tournaments were organised by the Cromer Covered Courts Club and held at the indoor courts at Newhaven Court, Cromer, Norfolk, England. The event ran until 1965.

The Berkshire Championships was a men's and women's international grass court tennis tournament founded by the Berkshire Lawn Tennis Association as the Berkshire County Lawn Tennis Championships in 1903. The championships were mainly held in Reading, Berkshire, England. On some occasions it was held in Wallingford now part of Oxfordshire and Cookham. It was held annually until 1971 when it was discontinued as part of the international tennis circuit.

The Tunbridge Wells Open was a combined men's and women's tennis tournament founded in 1908 as the Tunbridge Wells Open Lawn Tennis Tournament. It was played at the Tunbridge Wells Lawn Tennis Club, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. The tournament ran until 1981 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Circuit.
