Norika Sefa is a Kosovan film director, writer and editor, living in Prague, Czech Republic. [1] Her feature film debut, Looking for Venera (2021), [2] won a special jury award at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam. [3]

Life and work

She holds a master's degree from the FAMU Prague. In her films, she often merges fiction and documentary. Norika has been invited to join the European Film Academy. [4]

Desde Arriba (2020) is a hybrid documentary made under the guidance of Werner Herzog in the Peruvian jungle. [5]

Looking for Venera

Looking for Venera (Albanian: Në kërkim të Venerës) (2021) is Sefa's debut feature film. The film is a coming-of-age drama shot in Kosovo with an ensemble composed of mostly non-actors. She wanted to show a picture of Kosovo far from exotic stereotypes. [6] [7] [8]

The film is a Kosovo Cinematography Center and Macedonia co-production. The film was shot in a small town in Kosovo, at the border with Macedonia. The film premiered at 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam, winning a special jury award in the Tiger competition. [3] Norika is currently developing her next feature film set in Kosovo. [5]

The 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam, was the 2021 installment of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, which took place on 1–7 February 2021 and 2–6 June 2021. The first part of the edition focused on the main Tiger, Big Screen, Ammodo Tiger Short, and Limelight programmes. Whilst, the second part focused on the Harbour, Bright Future, Cinema Regained, Classics and Short and Mid-Length Film sections.

Blerta Basholli is a Kosovan writer, director and producer. Basholli has previously lived in New York City for a time span of four years, allowing her to work on a number of projects as a student, among those being her short film “Lena and Me” which won awards in a number of international and Kosovo-based festivals. In 2008 she was awarded with the Deans Fellowship at the Film Graduate Program at Tisch School of the Artists, NYU. Most recently, her debut feature film “Hive” (2021) has achieved great success, breaking Sundance Records, and becoming the first Kosovo film to enter the Oscars shortlist nomination.

Jorge Thielen Armand is a film director, screenwriter and producer. He studied Communications in Concordia University in Montreal, and later, with Rodrigo Michelangeli, founded the Canadian-Venezuelan film production company La Faena Films. He has directed two feature films, La Soledad and La Fortaleza, and the short film Flor de la Mar. All three films have received positive reviews from critics.

Munnel (transl. Sand/Soil) is a 2023 Sri Lankan Tamil language drama film written, directed and produced by Visakesa Chandrasekaram. The film was screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and opened to positive reviews from critics.

Whispering Mountains also known as Rahas kiyana kandu is a 2023 Sri Lankan Sinhala-language drama film co-written and directed by Jagath Manuwarna. It is his feature film directorial debut. The film won the NETPAC Award for the best Asian feature film at the 52nd International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film premiered in the Bright Future programme of the 2023 International Film Festival Rotterdam.
