The Northern Kentucky Norse women's basketball team represents Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky, United States. [2]
The Norse began play in 1974. From 1985 to 2012, they played in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. From 2012 to 2015, they played in the Atlantic Sun Conference, now known as the ASUN Conference, before joining the Horizon League. As of the end of the 2015–16 season, they have an all-time record of 880–361. In 2000, the Norse won the NCAA Women's Division II Basketball Championship in overtime 71–62 over North Dakota State. This was the first title in the history of the school. In 2003, they finished as runner-up to South Dakota State 65–50. In 2008, the Norse beat South Dakota 63–58 to win their second championship. In their first season in Division I (2012–13), they finished 15–13, but they were invited to the Women's Basketball Invitational. The following year, they went to the second round of the WBI. They also made the WBI in 2016. [3] [4]
The Norse had a 27–18 record from twenty NCAA Tournament appearances at the Division II level.

The school's athletic program began a transition to NCAA Division I in the 2012–13 school year. For the first three seasons of the transition, it was a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. In the final season of the transition in 2015–16, the Norse joined the Horizon League. The Norse were coached by John Brannen until April 14, 2019, when he left to take a job with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. Before him the Norse program's coach was Dave Bezold, who had an overall record of 138 wins and 72 losses. On April 23, 2019 Darrin Horn was hired as head coach by Northern Kentucky. Since joining Division I in 2012–13, the Norse have made three NCAA tournament appearances, most recently in 2023.

They finished the season tied for first place in the NCC losing in the second game of the conference tournament. However, The Jackrabbits won all six of their NCAA tournament games, claiming the NCAA D–II Championship over Northern Kentucky, 65–50.

The Norse, led by fourth-year head coach John Brannen, played their home games at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Kentucky as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 26–9, 13–5 in Horizon League play, to win a share of the regular season championship with Wright State. They defeated Detroit Mercy, Oakland, and Wright State to be champions of the Horizon League tournament. They received the Horizon League's automatic-bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the first round to Texas Tech.
Drew McDonald is an American former basketball player. He played college basketball for the Northern Kentucky Norse. McDonald was named the conference's Player of the Year in 2019.

The Norse, led by first-year head coach Darrin Horn, played their home games at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Kentucky as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 23–9, 13–5 in Horizon League play, to finish in second place. They defeated Green Bay and UIC to become champions of the Horizon League tournament. They received the Horizon League's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. However, the NCAA tournament was cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

They defeated Oakland, Youngstown State, and Cleveland State to claim the title championship of the Horizon League tournament. They received the Horizon League's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, where they lost in the first round to top-seeded Houston, closing their season with an overall record of 22–13.
