Noshad A. Shaikh is the former [1] vice-chancellor of Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, Jamshoro, Pakistan, [2] the first public sector medical university of the country.

Born in an educated family of Shikarpur, his early schooling was done in Shikarpur and Hyderabad. His father, Maqsood Ahmed Shaikh, served in top positions in the Government of Pakistan.

Noshad acquired his MBBS degree from the University of Karachi in 1983, where he did postgraduate work in general surgery. He was awarded fellowships from the International College of Surgeons and College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. He has written several papers published in both national and international journals. He has attended and presented papers in several conferences both within the country and abroad. He has been keynote speaker at many conferences and seminars.

He has worked as professor of surgery at Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi along with various administrative capacities including the posts of medical superintendent, Lyari General Hospital and Civil Hospital Karachi. Later, he was appointed as principal, Sindh Medical College, Karachi. He served as secretary, Health Department, Government of Sindh, from September 2004 to May 2007. He is currently serving as president of Pakistan Medical Commission [3] [4]

As Secretary of Health, he had a pivotal role in drafting and implementing the first provincial health policy. He was the pioneer architect in the development of Safe Blood Transfusion Act 2006, Private Hospitals Regulatory Authority bill and the telemedicine project in the province of Sindh.

Under his leadership, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro became the first public sector medical institution in the country to introduce biomedical ethics and IT as subjects in the undergraduate syllabus. He introduced an integrated curriculum and a semester system, and established a cardiac surgery unit, a minimally invasive surgery unit, and regular public awareness programs.

Noshad is also honorary director of the Pakistan Medical Research Council (PMRC) Jamshoro, and the chief editor of JLUMHS, [5] [6] the official research journal of the university.

Shaikh or Sheikh, is a Sindhi tribe or caste. The "Shaikh" word is an Arabic term meaning elder of a tribe, lord, revered old man, or Islamic scholar. The Shaikhs of Sindh are one of the major tribe of the Sindhi Muslims ethnic group; they are converted from Sindhi Hindu Lohana/Brahmin tribes. They speak the various dialects of Sindhi, depending on their place of residence. The Shaikh are largely an urban community, residing in the towns and cities of Sindh. Shaikhs have different communities within them, namely Baghdadi, Sanjogi, Nangani, Deewan, and Chatani.

Agha Javed Pathan was a political activist from Sindh, Pakistan, who practiced as a doctor in Karachi. He was accused of throwing a shoe at Arbab Ghulam Rahim in April 2008. He was accused of hitting Arbab during his first visit to Sindh Assembly after the 2008 general election. Later Agha Javed was arrested and subsequently released due to a lack of evidence. He died on 4 November 2018 from a road accident in Karachi.

Javed Iqbal Kazi (1955–2014) was a Pakistani pathologist specialized in renal pathology, professor and chairman of Histopathology at Karachi Medical and Dental College, Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation, Dr. Ziauddin Hospitals & National Institute of Blood Diseases, and served as Dean of medicine of University of Karachi. He was also the board member of Journal of Pakistan Medical Association since 2005. He established the department of Histopathology at Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation, Karachi, in 1995 and is the pioneer of Renal and Transplant Pathology in Pakistan.

Farid Ahmad Khan is a Pakistani physician and plastic surgeon. He served as chairman, dean and principal at Sheikh Zayed Medical Institute Lahore from 2015 to 2018.He is a former Head of Plastic Surgery department at Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore. He is currently a Member Higher Educucation Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.
