Administrative divisions of Tonga

The island country of Tonga has five levels of administrative divisions of Tonga. Each of these is further divided into a total of 23 districts. Below are several lists of the divisions, according to different sorting schemes.

Tongatapu island

Tongatapu is the main island of the Kingdom of Tonga and the location of its capital Nukuʻalofa. It is located in Tonga's southern island group, to which it gives its name, and is the country's most populous island, with approximately 71,260 residents (2006), 70.5% of the national population, on 260 square kilometres. Its maximum height is 65 metres. Tongatapu is Tonga's centre of government and the seat of its monarchy.

Tonga national rugby union team rugby union team

The Tonga national rugby union team is nicknamed ʻIkale Tahi . Like their Polynesian neighbours, the Tongans start their matches with a war dance – the Sipi Tau. They are members of the Pacific Islands Rugby Alliance (PIRA) along with Fiji and Samoa. The Ikale Tahi achieved a historic 19–14 victory over France in the 2011 Rugby World Cup, but having lost to New Zealand and Canada, were unable to achieve what would have been their first ever presence at the quarter-finals.

The Tonga national football team is the national team of Tonga and is controlled by the Tonga Football Association.

Tonga national rugby league team Tonga national rugby league team

The Tonga national rugby league team represents Tonga in rugby league football. They are currently the 4th ranked team in the world, and the highest ranked tier-two nation. The team was formed to compete in the 1986 Pacific Cup, and have competed at five Rugby League World Cups, starting in 1995 and continuing consecutively until the most recent tournament in 2017, where they achieved their best ever result as semi-finalists.

Prime Minister of Tonga position

The prime minister of Tonga is the country's head of government. Tonga is a monarchy with the king, currently Tupou VI, as head of state. The current prime minister is Pōhiva Tuʻiʻonetoa, in office since 27 September 2019.

The Tonga women's national football team represents Tonga in international women's football. The team is controlled by the Tonga Football Association. Their best title was Third in the 2007 OFC Women's Championship.

ʻAkilisi Pōhiva former Prime Minister of Tonga

Samiuela ʻAkilisi Pōhiva was a Tongan pro-democracy activist and politician. Pohiva, the leader of the Democratic Party of the Friendly Islands (DPFI), served as the Prime Minister of Tonga from 2014 to his death in 2019. He was only the fourth commoner to serve as Prime Minister, and the first commoner to be elected to that position by Parliament rather than appointed by the King. On 25 August 2017, he was dismissed by the King along with the rest of parliament with fresh elections to be held on 16 November, in which his party won with enough seats to form a government.

2019 Rugby World Cup 9th Rugby World Cup

The 2019 Rugby World Cup is the ongoing ninth Rugby World Cup, the quadrennial rugby union world championship. The tournament is being held in Japan from 20 September to 2 November. This is the first time the tournament has been held in Asia and outside the traditional Tier 1 rugby nations.

2019 Pacific Games

The 2019 Pacific Games was the sixteenth edition of the Pacific Games. The Games were held in Apia, Samoa, returning there for the first time since 2007. It was the third time overall that the Pacific Games were held in Samoa.

The Tonga National Rugby League (TNRL) is the governing body for rugby league in Tonga. It is based in the capital Nuku'alofa.

The 2019 Great Britain Lions tour is a forthcoming tour by the Great Britain national rugby league team to the Southern Hemisphere in 2019.

2019 Oceania Cup (rugby league)

The 2019 Oceania Cup is a current international rugby league tournament between countries of the Oceania region. The competition began in June and will be contested by six teams.

The 2019 season of the Tonga Major League is the 40th season of top flight association football competition in Tonga. The winner qualifies for the 2020 OFC Champions League Qualifying stage. Because the Tonga Major League is the only men's senior competition on Tonga there is no relegation.

Tonga at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships

Tonga competed at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea from 12 to 28 July.

Diamond Langi is a Tongan-New Zealand model, actress, and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe New Zealand 2019. She will now represent New Zealand at the Miss Universe 2019 competition.

Tonga at the World Athletics Championships

Tonga has competed in the IAAF World Athletics Championships six times with their first appearance being in 1983 at Helsinki, Finland with Georges Taniel competing in the men's 100m. As of 2019, the country has not recorded any medals. Tonga best performance was in 1983 when Niulolo Pelesikoti placed eighteenth in the Men's decathlon.
