NumberGuru is a website and smartphone application that allows users to look up the owner of an entered telephone number. Developed by BeenVerified, it can be accessed through its website and smartphone applications for iPhone, Windows Mobile, and Android. [2] It aggregates 99% of landline phones and approximately 50% of domestic cell phones. [3] It also collects data on toll-free and telemarketing callers. It was reported that it averaged approximately 864,000 look-ups per day shortly after its launch in May 2011. [4] It was also listed as a Top 10 Utility App and Top 150 Free Apps Overall by App Annie. [5]

NumberGuru works by entering the telephone number that the user wishes to find information on. The owner's name, phone carrier, location, and type of phone are returned in the results. [6] It also allows user to enter information about business or marketer numbers such as spam reports. [7] Comments from other users who have looked up the same number are displayed with the results. [8] The Android mobile application can also be connected to a users phone book and a notification will be made at the time of a call if it is a known number from the user's contacts or a marketer or spam call. The application captures detailed information about possible Fair Debt Collection Practices Act violations including date, time, number, and identity and allows users to easily provide this information to regulatory agencies so they may take action. PrivacyStar has over 1.2 million users who have blocked over 120 million calls and filed over 300,000 complaints directly with the Federal Trade Commission as of September 2012. In fact, PrivacyStar is the leading source of all call complaint data reported to the FTC. In 2015, its users filed 31% of all call complaints. On February 13, 2013, PrivacyStar launched a free SMS spam complaint filing feature for Android smartphones. Whoscall

Whoscall is a caller ID and number management mobile application developed by Gogolook, a Taiwanese design team. The app identifies incoming call as the call comes in allowing users to identify important calls and filter out unwanted callers. It also includes number management features, number and keyword blocks and an offline database. Whoscall relies on its networks of local partners, internet searches and user community generated content to identify numbers. The platform is available across the Android, Windows Phone and iOS platforms.
