Nuphonic was an independent record label, based in London, from 1994 to 2002.
Nuphonic was founded in 1994 by Sav Remzi and David Hill. It released its first record in June 1995, Faze Action's "Original Disco Motion", which was soon followed by the cello-led disco track "In The Trees".

The company ceased trading in 2002 and all rights were returned to the artists who recorded music for the label.
In 2004 Remzi launched a new record label, Tirk Records. David Hill formed a music supervision and composition company, called Radial Music, in 2006.
House is a music genre characterized by a repetitive four-on-the-floor beat and a typical tempo of 120 beats per minute as a re-emergence of 1970's disco. It was created by DJs and music producers from Chicago's underground club culture and evolved slowly in the early/mid 1980s, and as DJs began altering disco songs to give them a more mechanical beat. By early 1988, House became mainstream and supplanted the typical 80s music beat.
The twelve-inch single is a type of vinyl gramophone record that has wider groove spacing and shorter playing time with a "single" or a few related sound tracks on each surface, compared to LPs which have several songs on each side. It is named for its 12-inch (300 mm) diameter. This allows for louder levels to be cut on the disc by the mastering engineer, which in turn gives a wider dynamic range, and thus better sound quality. This record type is commonly used in disco and dance music genres, where DJs use them to play in clubs. They are played at either 33+1⁄3 or 45 rpm. The conventional 7-inch single usually holds three or four minutes of music at full volume. The 12-inch LP sacrifices volume for extended playing time.
Screamadelica is the third studio album by Scottish rock band Primal Scream. It was first released on 23 September 1991 in the United Kingdom by Creation Records and on 8 October 1991 in the United States by Sire Records. The album marked a significant departure from the band's early indie rock sound, drawing inspiration from the blossoming house music scene and associated drugs such as LSD and MDMA. Much of the album's production was handled by acid house DJ Andrew Weatherall and engineer Hugo Nicolson, who remixed original recordings made by the band into dance-oriented tracks.

David Hill studied photography before beginning his career in music in 1994 as a member of the Ballistic Brothers, together with Ashley Beedle and Rocky & Diesel. The Ballistic Brothers released two albums, a number of singles, and also work with many artists, including the Brand New Heavies, D*Note, Ronny Jordan and Depeche Mode.

"Winter Hill" is the second single from Doves' fourth studio album Kingdom of Rust. The single was released on 20 July 2009 via Heavenly Records. The song is one of three songs recorded during the album sessions produced by John Leckie. The radio edit of "Winter Hill" features a new mix by David Bascombe. In a track-by-track discussion with NME, Doves said that the song is about Winter Hill near Bolton, and that the track had been "hanging around since Lost Souls but we've not worked on it before...it just kept knocking on our door." "Winter Hill" was released as a limited edition 7" vinyl single, with the exclusive new "Dylanesque" B-side "Brazil." Three limited edition 12" singles or two separate digital download-only sets feature exclusive remixes of "Jetstream" and "Compulsion" by Sasha, Hans-Peter Lindstrøm, and Andrew Weatherall. "Winter Hill" became the band's first single not to chart in the top 100 of the UK Singles Chart on its week of release. It does not appear on their 2010 best-of album The Places Between, although its video is included on the accompanying DVD.

Paper Recordings is a Manchester record company that played a significant role in British club culture. It released contemporary electronic music from an international roster of recording artists integrating the genres of house, funk, jazz, techno and soul. Along with Nuphonic, Glasgow Underground Recordings and 20/20 Vision recordings, it is credited as one of the key labels that drove the popularity of the Nu-Disco genre in the late 1990s and 2000s.
