Nurunnabi Chowdhury (born 1 December 1968) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Bhola-3 constituency. [1]
Bangladesh Awami League candidate Jashimuddin was elected to parliament for Bhola-3 in the 2008 Bangladeshi general election. The seat was vacated in 2010 as the result of a Supreme Court ruling. [2] A by-election was called for Bhola-3,which was won by Awami League candidate Chowdhury on 29 April 2010,against Major Hafizuddin Ahmed of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. [3] [1]
Chowdhury was re-elected in 2014,2018 and 2024 as the MP of Bhola-3. [4] [5]
On 13 August 2010,Ibrahim Ahmed,a local Jubo League leader,had died after being shot with a gun belonging to Chowdhury. Chowdhury's driver Kala filed an unnatural death case with the police and claimed Ibrahim accidentally shot himself while handling the gun in the MP's car. [6] The Detective Branch of the police suspected foul play. On 19 August 2010,Ibrahim's brother filed a murder case against Chowdhury and 17 others with a court in Dhaka. [7] [8] On 12 January 2012,the Criminal Investigation Department pressed murder charges against six. The accused included Chowhury's driver,bodyguard,personal secretary,and three members of the Jubo League,but excluded Nurunnabi Chowdhury. [6]
The Jatiya Party is a political party in Bangladesh. It is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad,against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammed Quader. On 3 January 2019,the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However,the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently,it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations. The current chairperson of the party is Ghulam Muhammed Quader MP.
Rapid Action Battalion is an anti-crime and anti-terrorism unit of the Bangladesh Police. This elite force consists of members of the Bangladesh Army,Bangladesh Navy,Bangladesh Air Force,Bangladesh Police,Border Guard Bangladesh,and Bangladesh Ansar. It was formed on 26 March 2004 as RAT,and commenced operations on 14 April 2004.
Syed Faruque Rahman was a coup member involved in toppling the Sheikh Mujib regime in Bangladesh. He was convicted and hanged on 28 January 2010 along with co-conspirators Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan,A.K.M. Mohiuddin Ahmed,Mohiuddin Ahmed,and Mohammad Bazlul Huda in Dhaka Central Jail,Old Dhaka,for the murder of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,the founder and first president of Bangladesh. Syed Faruque Rahman and his close ally Khondaker Abdur Rashid were the chief organisers of the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 15 August 1975. He was 2IC of the 1st Bengal Lancers Regiment of the Bangladesh Army who led a group of junior army officers in order to overthrew the regime of Sheikh Mujib and install Khondaker Mushtaque Ahmed as president of Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Awami Jubo League commonly known as the Jubo League,is the first youth organization of Bangladesh founded by Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani. It is the youth wing of Bangladesh Awami League. Enforced disappearances in Bangladesh are cases in which the Government of Bangladesh directly or indirectly kidnaps people and holds them incommunicado. According to a Dhaka-based human rights group Odhikar,at least 402 people have become victim of enforced disappearance from 2009 to 2017 under the former Awami League administration. These incidents along with extrajudicial killings in Bangladesh has been criticized by The United Nations and human rights groups including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB),a special paramilitary unit in Bangladesh,is alleged to be behind most of these disappearances even though RAB claimed these allegations to be false. The current Awami League government denies involvement in these forced disappearances even when victims later surface in custody.

On 19 November 2021 he nominated for Bangladesh Awami League Presidium member. He received the Bir Bikram,the third highest award for gallantry,for his role in the Bangladesh Liberation War.
