Nuvraj Singh Bassi (born March 20, 1983) is a former defensive tackle in the Canadian Football League. He was drafted 43rd overall in the 2010 CFL Draft by the Lions. He played college football for the Oregon Ducks.
He previously played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Montreal Alouettes.
Nuvraj was drafted by the BC Lions in the fifth round (43rd overall) in the 2005 CFL Draft and spent the year on the team's practice roster. He did not re-sign with the Lions for the 2006 season and spent two years out of football. He signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2008 and was on their practice roster for two years, alternating between the offensive line and defensive line. After his release from by the Roughriders, he signed with the Montreal Alouettes for the 2010 season. He was signed to the Lions' practice roster in July 2011. He was released by the Lions on October 25, 2011. [1]
Bassi's parents are Kalvinder and Inderjit Bassi, and he has one brother and one sister. Nuvraj comes from a sports family, and they were very supportive of their son’s prospects.
Nuvraj Bassi made history as the first Sikh in the Canadian Football League (CFL), when he made his June CFL debut as a member of the Grey Cup Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Darian Bernard Durant is a former professional Canadian football quarterback. He played college football at the University of North Carolina. By the end of his college career, he held school records for completion percentage, touchdowns, passing yards, total offense and completions. Durant was signed as a free agent by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2006, and became the club's full-time starting quarterback in 2009. He was named a CFL West Division All-Star in 2009 and 2013. Durant was the starting quarterback when the Saskatchewan Roughriders won the 101st Grey Cup in 2013 on their home field. Durant also played for the Montreal Alouettes in 2017. His brother Justin played in the National Football League as a linebacker.
Aaron Hunt is a professional Canadian football defensive tackle who most recently played for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
Luc Mullinder is a former professional Canadian football defensive end who played for nine seasons in the Canadian Football League. Mullinder was originally drafted 31st overall by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2004 CFL Draft and spent the first eight years of his career with the team. Chris Getzlaf is a Canadian former professional football slotback who played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 2007 to 2017. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2007 CFL Draft, 33rd overall, by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and was later traded that season to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He has also been a member of the Edmonton Eskimos. Prior to turning pro, Getzlaf played with the junior team Prairie Thunder and the collegiate team Regina Rams in his hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan.
