Nyayo House is a skyscraper in Nairobi, Kenya. It hosts several government departments such as immigration (the State Department for Immigration, Border Control, and Regulation of Persons) and also serves as the headquarters of Nairobi Province. The building is located at the corner of Uhuru Highway and Kenyatta Avenue. [2] It is 84 metres high and has 27 floors [3]
Planning of the tower started in 1973 and it was initially set to be named as Nairobi House. Construction started in 1979, one year after Daniel arap Moi took over as the president of Kenya. Building of the house was completed in 1983. The building was planned by Ministry of Public Works, Ngotho Architects and constructed by Laxmanbhai Construction. [2]
Nyayo House is particularly known for its detention facilities in its basement, often called as "Nyayo House torture chambers". Many opponents of the Moi government were beaten there by Special Branch officials (the Special Branch was later renamed the National Security Intelligence Service). [2] Some of the known detainees at Nyayo House were George Anyona, Wahome Mutahi and Raila Odinga [4]
After the Moi era the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) investigated Nyayo House torture cases, and several victims— including politician Koigi wa Wamwere —have been compensated. [2] Another detainee, musician Ochieng Kabaselleh died soon after he was released, allegedly due to injuries caused by torture. [5] A court case was filed in June 2024 by some of the survivors of the torture chamber for them be made into a museum and open to the public. [6]
Nyayo House is also infamous for its association with state corruption. [2]

Nyayo National Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Nairobi, Kenya. It is located at the square of Mombasa Road, Langata Road and the Aerodrome Road. It is approximately two kilometers from the City Center, directly opposite Nairobi Mega Mall, formerly known as Nakumatt Mega. The stadium was built in 1983 for a capacity of 15,000. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The popular AFC Leopards football club plays most of its home games at Nyayo stadium. The stadium is also used for athletics, swimming and various ceremonies most common of which are National Holiday celebrations. Other facilities at the Nyayo Stadium include a gymnasium and a 50-metre swimming pool. Rugby union club Mwamba RFC used the Nyayo National Stadium for home games.

It is intended to be used during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations soccer tournament. The stadium is one of the stadia that Kenya plans to use during the tournament, that will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.
