The Chualar bus crash took place on September 17, 1963, when a freight train collided with a makeshift "bus"— a flatbed truck with two long benches and a canopy— carrying 58 migrant farmworkers on a railroad crossing outside Chualar in the Salinas Valley, California, United States, killing 32 people and injuring 25. Because the vehicle was actually a truck carrying people in the back, rather than a bus, the crash is ranked as the deadliest automobile accident in U.S. history, according to the National Safety Council.

FlixBus operates buses or, in many cases, just handles marketing, pricing, and customer service for a commission, on behalf of bus operators. In 2023, FlixBus had revenues of €2 billion and carried 81 million passengers of which 55 million were in Europe, 14 million were in Turkey, and 12 million were in North America.

On February 15, 2023, 42 people were killed in a bus crash in Panama. The bus was headed to a migrant reception center in the town of Gualaca when it crashed in Gualaca District, Chiriquí Province, in the west of the country, about 67.8 km (42.1 mi) from the Costa Rican border.
On May 7, 2023, George Alvarez drove a Range Rover sport utility vehicle into 18 people in Brownsville, Texas, United States. Eight people were killed, and 10 were injured. Officials say it is unclear whether the crash was intentional.
