The Oberelbische Verkehrsgesellschaft Pirna-Sebnitz (OVPS; English: Pirna-Sebnitz Upper Elbe Transport Company) was a company that operated public transport services in the German state of Saxony. It was a member of the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (Upper Elbe Transport Association), a transport association that manages a common public transport structure for Dresden and its surrounding areas. The OVPS's area of operations included large parts of the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge as well as stubs extending into the state capital city of Dresden and the district of Bautzen. This area is often described as Saxon Switzerland. [1]

On January 1, 2017, OVPS took over DB Regio's shares in Regionalverkehr Dresden GmbH  [ de ] (RVD), leaving RVD owned 51% owned by OVPS and 49% are owned by the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district. As of January 1, 2019, the two companies were merged to form the Regionalverkehr Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge GmbH (RVSOE). [4]

Saxon Elbeland

The Saxon Elbeland is a term used in more recent times which describes a region along the Elbe, whose boundaries are not clearly defined, but which extends roughly from the Elbe Sandstone Mountains to Torgau. The best-known cities and town in this area are Dresden, Meißen, Riesa and Torgau. The term is largely synonymous with the region along the river known as the Upper Elbe (Oberelbe), i.e. the German section of the Elbe River nearest its source region.

The Pirna–Coswig railway is a two-track, electrified mainline railway in the German state of Saxony, predominantly served by the Dresden S-Bahn. The Stadt Wehlen ferry is a passenger ferry across the Elbe river in Germany. The ferry connects the town of Stadt Wehlen, which lies on the northern bank of the Elbe, with the southern bank, where the town's railway station is located. It operates as required throughout the day, with a journey time of around 2 minutes.
