Obstacle swimming

Obstacle swimming is a sport in which competitors swim through a water course that includes obstacles that impede their path between the starting and finishing point. It has been an event at various international sporting competitions like the 1900 Summer Olympics. [1] It is also one of the five events that are a part of the military pentathlon, [2] and has been used as a part of recruitment competitions for the Royal Marines. [3] Progressing through underwater obstacles has also been integrated into the obstacle courses of the American Ninja Warrior competition. [4]

Adventure racing

Adventure racing is typically a multidisciplinary team sport involving navigation over an unmarked wilderness course with races extending anywhere from two hours up to two weeks in length. (What Is Adventure Racing Video) Some races offer solo competition as well. The principal disciplines in adventure racing include trekking, mountain biking, and paddling although races can incorporate a multitude of other disciplines including climbing, abseiling, horse riding, skiing and white water rafting. Teams generally vary in gender mix and in size from two to five competitors, however, the premier format is considered to be mixed gender teams of four racers. There is typically no suspension of the clock during races, irrespective of length; elapsed competition time runs concurrently with real time, and competitors must choose if or when to rest.

Obstacle course

An obstacle course is a series of challenging physical obstacles an individual, team or animal must navigate, usually while being timed. Obstacle courses can include running, climbing, jumping, crawling, swimming, and balancing elements with the aim of testing speed, endurance and agility. Sometimes a course involves mental tests.

<i>Sasuke</i> (TV series)

Sasuke is a Japanese sports entertainment television special, airing since 1997, in which 100 competitors attempt to complete a four-stage obstacle course. An edited version, named Ninja Warrior, is screened in at least 18 other countries.

American Ninja Challenge was a nationwide competition sponsored by G4 TV to send a number of American citizens to Japan to compete in the TBS hit TV show Sasuke. American Ninja Challenge has been held since Sasuke 19 and currently merged into the TV series American Ninja Warrior that premiered on December 12, 2009 and succeeded American Ninja Challenge.

In cross country events, mud and trail runs are often combined and the races are designed to result in mental and physical collapse. Obstacles may include climbing over walls, carrying heavy objects, traversing bodies of water, crawling under barbed wire, and jumping through fire. Many obstacles are similar to those used in military training, while others are unique to obstacle racing and are employed throughout the course to test endurance, strength, speed, and dexterity.

The ninth season of the reality competition series American Ninja Warrior premiered on June 12, 2017 on NBC. American Ninja Warrior Junior is an American sports competition game show on Universal Kids that premiered in 2018. It is the children's edition of American Ninja Warrior and American Ninja Warrior: Ninja vs. Ninja, which themselves are based on the Japanese game show Sasuke. As with the rest of the franchise, the series is produced by A. Smith & Co.. In May 2021, it was announced that the third season would be moving to Peacock.

The eleventh season of the reality/sports competition series American Ninja Warrior premiered on May 29, 2019 on NBC. City qualifier and finals competitions were held in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Oklahoma City, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Tacoma, marking the first time a course was held in the Pacific Northwest.

The National Ninja League (NNL) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to growing ninja as a sport. In contrast to American Ninja Warrior, the NNL provides multiple competitions each season for athletes as young as 6 years old under a unified rule set.
