Olena Viktorivna Demyanenko (born May 8, 1966 in Lviv) [1] is a Ukrainian film director, [2] film producer, [3] and screenwriter. She is a member of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Film Academy (since 2017) and the European Film Academy (since 2018). [4] In 1990 she graduated from the Karpenko-Kary Kyiv Institute of Theater Arts.

The 2020 Ukrainian local elections took place on Sunday 25 October 2020. In the election, deputies of district councils and rural townships were elected and elections for city mayors were held. In practice this will mean that most voters had to fill out four ballots. On 15, 22 and 29 November and 6 December 2020 a second round of mayoral elections was held in cities with more than 75,000 voters where no candidate gained more than 50% of the votes.

Derussification in Ukraine is a process of removing Russian influence from the country of Ukraine. Derussification began after the collapse of the USSR and intensified with the demolition of monuments to Lenin during Euromaidan and the further systemic process of decommunization in Ukraine. The Russo-Ukrainian War gave a strong impetus to the process. The process manifests itself in the renaming of toponyms named after Russian statesmen and cultural figures, or those that are believed to reflect Russianism and the Russian worldview, or are otherwise associated with Russia. Also part of the process is the dismantling of objects of the Russian rule. As of April 8, 2022, according to a poll by the sociological group Rating, 76% of Ukrainians support the initiative to rename streets and other objects whose names are associated with Russia. In March 2023, the Ukrainian parliament forbid to have toponymy with names associated with Russia.

Marysia Nikitiuk is a Ukrainian film director, screenwriter and fiction writer. She wrote and directed When the Trees Fall (2018) and co-wrote Homeward (2019), both of which have drawn recognition as among the best Ukrainian films. Nikitiuk also directed Lucky Girl (2021) and published a collection of short fiction, The Abyss (2016), which won the Oles Ulianenko International Literary Prize.
