Olli Haaskivi is an American-Finnish actor.

Early life and family

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio where his father, Finnish soccer player Kai Haaskivi, was playing for the Cleveland Force. When Haaskivi was 8, the family moved to Florida, where he grew up between Bradenton and Sarasota. His cousin is former NHL hockey player Niklas Hagman. [1] [2]

Career

He attended Booker High School in Sarasota beginning in the 9th grade, and upon graduation he studied musical theatre at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. [1] During his time there, he performed in a production of Seussical alongside Andrew Keenan-Bolger and Benj Pasek. [3] His first onscreen role was in an episode of Unforgettable in 2012. [4]

In 2019, Haaskivi appeared in a small role opposite Edward Norton in Motherless Brooklyn , directed by Norton. [5] He would make a guest appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Dr. Nagel. [6] In February 2022, he was cast in Oppenheimer , a biopic about J. Robert Oppenheimer directed by Christopher Nolan, [7] and was cast in a recurring role in the Apple TV+ miniseries The Big Cigar later that year. [8]

Personal life

Haaskivi holds dual citizenship between the United States and Finland. Due to an error made when his father was filing citizenship papers on his behalf, Haaskivi was briefly listed amongst Finland's Most Wanted. [1]

The Big Cigar is a biographical drama thriller miniseries developed by Jim Hecht, based on the 2012 Playboy article of the same name by Joshuah Bearman. Following the events of the Black Panther Party in 1970s, the series is about party founder Huey P. Newton escaping from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to Cuba with the help of Bert Schneider for an elaborate plan.

The soundtrack to the 2019 film Motherless Brooklyn directed by Edward Norton consists of two musical projects released by WaterTower Music. An original soundtrack consisted of jazz compositions and a score album featuring music by Daniel Pemberton. Both the albums were released on October 25, 2019, a week prior to the film's release. An original song "Daily Battles" performed by Thom Yorke and Flea released as a single on August 21.
