In late 2019, the swimming pool was closed to allow the water slides to be removed. [4]
In January 2023, the sauna was closed along with saunas in six other centres in Wiltshire as a cost-saving measure due to rising energy prices. [5]

Chippenham is a market town in north-west Wiltshire, England. It lies 13 miles (21 km) north-east of Bath, 86 miles (138 km) west of London and is near the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town was established on a crossing of the River Avon, where some form of settlement is believed to have existed since before Roman times. It was a royal vill and probably a royal hunting lodge, under Alfred the Great. The town continued to grow when the Great Western Railway arrived in 1841. It had a population of 36,548 in 2021.

The school is the only secondary school in the town of Devizes and also serves many surrounding villages. Built around the Georgian Southbroom House, the school now comprises additional teaching blocks of a more modern style, set within its own sports fields. Built in the 1960s by Australian architects Kevin Borland and Daryl Jackson, the Swimming Centre is considered to be a fine example of Brutalist architecture. Originally built in 1927 as a municipal swimming baths, the facilities were renovated in 1967 by Borland and Jackson to accommodate for higher swimming participation numbers. It is named in honour of Prime Minister Harold Holt, the local member of parliament until his apparent drowning death while the facility was under construction.

It was opened on 3 December 2011 by Wolverhamptons City’s mayor Bert Turner with the ceremony attended by Bert Williams himself. The building was constructed to replace the existing swimming baths in Prouds Lane, Bilston which was opened on 27 July 1964.
