OneHope is an American winery based in Napa Valley, California. Established in 2007, the company operates as a social initiative that combines wine production with charitable fundraising for nonprofit organizations and social causes. Charitable contributions are distributed through the OneHope Foundation. [1] [2]
In 2005, Jake Kloberdanz was a district sales manager for E&J Gallo Winery. [3] [4] In August 2006, a childhood friend of Kloberdanz was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. During this time, Kloberdanz observed that consumer products linked to charitable causes performed well in retail markets, leading him to begin planning a business model combining wine sales with charitable giving. [4] [5]
In 2007, Kloberdanz and seven of his colleagues left E&J Gallo Winery to establish OneHope as a charitable wine company. [4] [6] The company was launched with approximately $10,000 in startup capital and partnered with Sonoma Wine Company and vintner David Eliot for initial wine production. ONEHOPE’s first release, a 2005 Merlot, sold approximately 8,000 bottles in its first year [7] [8]
Mama D's Italian Kitchen, in Newport Beach, California, became OneHope Wine's first commercial account in 2007. [9] Albertsons grocery stores began carrying OneHope Wine in 2008. [6] in 2009, Young's Market Company became the company's first distributor. [9]
In 2010, Robert Mondavi Jr., owner and president of Folio Fine Wine Partners, became OneHope's winemaker. [10] The collaboration with the Mondavi family began after ONEHOPE co-founder and vice president of sales Sarah McPeake met Michael Mondavi at a wine trade event. Mondavi Jr. was also involved in sourcing grapes used in ONEHOPE wines. [3] [11] Later, Whole Foods Market began selling OneHope Wines in 2013. [12]
In 2014, the company formally launched the Cause Entrepreneur program, which focuses on direct-to-consumer wine sales through hosted events and personal networks. Ten percent of event sales are directed to a charitable organization selected by the event host. [13]
In 2021, ONEHOPE opened a winery and hospitality facility in Rutherford, California. [13]
In 2023, the company announced a winemaking partnership with Atelier Melka, the consulting firm of the winemaker Philippe Melke, working alongside Rob Mondavi Jr. and ONEHOPE head winemaker Isadora Frias. The collaboration involved Melka’s team joining ONEHOPE’s winemaking operations to produce selected Iconic and Estate wines. Wines developed under the arrangement were released through the company’s 20/20 Collective program beginning in 2024. [14]
Jake Kloberdanz, a co-founder of the company, serves as chief executive officer. [3] Tiffany Wojtkiewicz, also a co-founder, serves as president. In 2021, Wojtkiewicz was named to Wine Enthusiast’s “40 Under 40” list in the beverage industry. [15] She was involved in the launch of ONEHOPE’s Cause Entrepreneur program, which allows independent representatives to sell wine while supporting selected charitable causes. [16]
As part of its Napa Valley expansion, ONEHOPE developed Estate 8, a vineyard estate and hospitality platform that operates as an integrated component of the winery rather than as a separate brand. The estate supports wine production, private tastings, and member-based hospitality experiences.
Estate 8 is located in Rutherford, California, and forms part of ONEHOPE’s transition toward estate-driven wine production and destination-based winery access following the opening of its Napa Valley facility in 2021. [13]
Its Rutherford winery and tasting room were designed by architect Howard Backen and are accessible to members of ONEHOPE’s 20/20 Collective. [13] The 20/20 Collective is a membership program structured around tiered participation levels that provide access to wines, winery experiences, and events, with a focus on philanthropic contributions. [17]
The winery features several indoor and outdoor tasting areas and serves as both a wine production facility and a private hospitality venue. [18] [19] [20]
The charitable donations are managed by the ONEHOPE Foundation. As of the early 2020s, the foundation has raised more than $10 million for charitable organizations worldwide, and ONEHOPE’s Sparkling Brut program has funded more than 3 million meals through food relief initiatives. [21] [22] [23]
ONEHOPE Winery has released limited-production wines under its Signature Series program in collaboration with musicians, professional athletes, and other public figures, as well as other non-profit organizations. These releases are associated with charitable fundraising initiatives and are produced in limited quantities. [24] [25]
An early Signature Series release involved musician Darius Rucker in 2012. [11] Later collaborations included country music artists Sara Evans and LeAnn Rimes, with proceeds directed to designated nonprofit organizations, including those focused on music education and animal welfare.
In 2013, ONEHOPE inked a partnership with Pencils for Promise to launch its Bottles for Better program for building schools and providing educational opportunities for children. [26]
The company has also participated in athlete-related Signature Series releases and other charitable initiatives involving professional athletes. It has associations with Major League Baseball players and National Football League players, including Clayton Kershaw, Chris Paul, and Aaron Rodgers, in connection with fundraising activities or membership programs. [27] [25]
According to ONEHOPE, the collaborations are short-term fundraising campaigns rather than commercial endorsements or operational partnerships. [27]
